  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED, Please Stop Shipping the Quad Redvolt Module...

If you are saying you would only power your camera, your Epic, with volts, I would seriously scratch my head. What RED has given it's early customers quite frankly is a number of gifts, though you may call it discounted it's still something along with the Epic X they didn't have to do. There comes a point where things go from valid complaint to sounding super spoiled. The companies is giving amazing value you a fuss is being had because the units can't be resold at a profit? Even if that's not the case it's how it sounds from the outside. Brent was nice enough to point out, again he didn't have to, that you may in fact be cutting off your nose despite your face... You don't know what is coming, neither do I. I am all for free trade but if folks don't want your stuff you can't get upset. Take a minute and look at what your tech can do because apart from like I have said before being 100% in the tank for RED, I know that things will only get better. If not I hear Alexa's accessories are only what is it, 5 or 6K for a EVF?

In any event, there is a plan, be patient.

- PE

Hey Paul,

I don't mean to sound super spoiled... I'm just pointing out that for a lot of us, these units are going to be unused and maybe there is a way to save us all time by not selling them to us so we can re-sell them. That just strikes me as an inefficient distribution of goods no matter how you split it. I'm not trying to make a 'profit' off the unit (as I mentioned in my post, I'd be more than happy if RED wants to give me a credit using a discounted 'bundle equation, ie - instead of 1950, something like 1200 or whatever the math works out to).

You're right, we don't know what's coming, but I don't see any harm in cordially voicing our plans and opinions. If RED doesn't want to change anything, as I also said in my previous post, that's fine with me, I agreed to the contract! I'm just voicing my opinion and - since Brent was replying in the thread - seeing if there was an easier option than re-selling the unit at market value.

Dear Drew, I get it. I guess with the amount of moneys spent, why folks are arguing over pennies comparatively is what upsets me. How would you feel if say, you sell what you have, RED comes out with s unit say, the pro IO that fits in two slots but you got first dibs and a discount on it had you kept your unit. Would you be upset and still try to get the discount or be ok with paying a higher premium?

Paul, If I had the decision to not take order on my module and then have to pay a premium, I would be fine with that. As an aside, I'm willing to bet that there's no way two of the slots in the battery module will be used as a ProIO plugin, but that's another topic.

I hope I didn't come off as a jerk, I just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents to this thread because a couple days ago to myself 'the last thing I want is that big clunky battery module now that I know what the battery life is and how big it is', then- I saw this thread and thought- 'wow, a lot of other people feel the same way as I do, maybe there's a way to meet in the middle.'

But, if there's not. I understand. Brent's points make sense and I'm not complaining... just inquiring.

Thanks for the reply Brent, I absolutely understand that it was part of a package, however, when we agreed contractually to the package there was no mention of backorder waits. These things not shipping with our cameras practically forced us to find a v-mount solution... so now, when we get them, how can we justify using them after spending money on the v-mount solution? I'm just saying you have to consider the circumstances here. In my mind, I agreed to a stage contract thinking that when delivered, my camera would be operable. That was not the case (still isn't, I don't have my redmote, everything I shoot is 24p default). I of course understand if you guys make us take shipment of these units, it just seems that we could all save everyone a ton of time by allowing some sort of exception (in my case since I have not paid for the unit, I still give RED the full price of my stage upgrade and then you give me some sort of credit using whatever 'bundle' equation you'd like). Again, thanks for listening.

good point...

They work incredibly hard, they listen, their prices are reasonable. I would hate to see RED change, I know they wont but I also hope they don't begin resenting us so I always just check back in nowadays and ask myself, why I am asking this of someone. I am not saying you are a jerk, at all, and again I get where you are coming from. I think V mounts are probably needed regardless. Maybe not with the XL redvolts but let them get through NAB and then see what's up.

you had always the choice to wait for delivery until everything is out of backorder.
obviously you didnt ;)
heh, heh, Actually, on my R-1s I did delay not knowing it would cost me a few months getting my Stage 2 and Stage 3 Epics. Since then I take everything when it becomes available.

i love the "johnny come lately" attitude!!! If it wasnt for those early adopters that did all the painstaking, not to ention, at times embarrasing troubleshooting in the early ONE days who knows where things would be today. So id
rather we not throw stones and say they are spoiled, but better yet thank them because they went through the really difficult trying times with an amazingly ambitious young upstart of a company you now have the privelidge to call yours and be all the fanboy you wish.

And that is somewhat what I am talking about. I had a conversation with Drew, you are yelling at pixels. Johnny come lately... Hmmm, hardly.

im not yelling at anyone but to be so presumtouous to say that those who find the module to their unliking are deemed "spoiled" is a bit on the zealous side of things. Pehaps you might wear there shoes, but in fact you cant because they were in the game long before you or I for that matter and therefor deserve to be heard for the reasons i stated above.

I don't feel spoiled. I paid my dues early on. I did ask if I could I could have "store credit" on the quad mod and spend it somewhere else.

The answer was a polite "no".

I will go into the future and live with it.

........and for my uses, probably sell the darned thing but what the heck. I am not looking the gift horse in the mouth and saying "bad breath"! I am saying "thank you Jim"

For me.. I'd hate to see the XL bats come so quick. I bought eight Red Volts per Epic, but it's almost no use without the module. Now just watch the XL bats come out a week after I get the Quad Module. The story of my life!

Maybe it's been covered earlier in this thread, but why the hell does not the quad-power-module feature a D-tap connection? It makes the quad-module totally useless to me, and perhaps many others who need to drive accessories on their cameras...

Dunno... Seems everyone is wondering exactly that... :)
