RED ONE Shooting in Berlin, Germay - First clips from "Cold Storage" (Working Title)

This makes me wish I had continued my German studies.

Hi Chris,

I guess I need to translate:

Das sieht aus wie ein echter Film!
It looks like a real movie!

Actually a very simple but actually the most encouraging and tempting compliment - for a digital shooting!

So war es auch gedacht...
Thats what we had in mind...

Axel

After seeing this footage, I clearly understand why people love RED ONE and why it hypnotizes me as well!

What beautiful footage. Truly a work of Art.

Simply stunning!

Hölle ja, das ist, wovon ich rede!

It's not that I needed a translation. I have a basic understanding of German- I just didn't continue my studies so I'm not fluent.

Danke Alex!

I just have got from the road (Milan) and saw those bunker's tests/proofs.

Definitely it is technically the best and the most correct RED footage till today.

It shows how RED would "wash up" 35 mm film very soon when camera is in the

hands of real and right DP and post "professionals" :) .

According to this discussion about Germans for me it is like this:

"When Germans are good then they are really the best."

Everybody knows this in all world's industry :) .

RED should stick in the future more to cooperate with European partners anyway

to get this extraordinary camera at the highest level possible.

As we all know well here at the forum I'm all the time "torturing" :clown2: this forum with my stories about

P+S Technik (IMS on RED) and Leica.

Possible Red's cooperation with Leica Camera AG would bring to the industry a new line of the highest cine lenses that could

equally compete with Panavision's Primo L lens series that are far away the best lenses in film industry till today.

For example Panasonic has a good cooperation with Leica Cemera AG as we all know well.

But also as we know Panasonic is not in a market for 35 mm DOF cameras in a near future.

That could be a good chance for RED to jump in right away and to work with Leica as soon as possible.

Man, you really know how to win friends and influence people don't you? Hahaha. :)

Anyway - this movie looks like something I'd like to see. Great work guys.

It's like in a military service, like in a marine service, you "repeat" and "torture" them until they don't get in their mind.

Our main goal is the highest result and quality :weight_lift: .

At the end we "gonna" achieve this goal and win the battle.

Does anybody knows whether the D-ILA HD10K is in the range of the DLA-RS2U which seems to be a newer model????

Because for grading I have my doubts about using a sony 4k in the future or getting this one and maby being satisfied already???

Great footage Axel. Please send us some comments after evaluating the film transfer results... Are you transferring 4K to film?? Is the final aspect ratio 1:1.85???

Hi All,

due to space demands from RED Relay we've removed .DIVX and .WMV and .JPG files from RED Relay.

We are unsure if that is really wise, due to the unpredictable crappy gamma shifts that sometimes occur (or not) with Quicktime. So if you feel the footage looks way strange you may check if your player is being pushing it to much!

We'll soon show newer footage. I may tell you that the rough cut for the teaser was done today and that vfx post production is completely under way now.

Here are some photos from the set...

First image shows DOP Stefan Grandinetti, bvk, and 1st AC Tommy Mann with the fully rigged RED ONE #110 ("Schimmy"). We had some remote lense control, the LCD, the additional Astro Waveform/Vector/Monitor, the Arri MB20 (I hope I am right with this one) etc. Imagine this in shoulder mount operation in those small bunker gangways...

See also the creature played by Mark Dauth. The mask was done by top vfx makeup artist Birger Laube (Anatomie I&II, Tattoo, Das Sams, Räuber Hotzenplotz, Speer & Er, She-Wolf in Paris, The Patriot, The 13th Floor, ...)

Then the director/author Mark Cairns instructing the creature in a blue box shot.

And hey, have in mind, it was 3° Celsius and Mark was wearing almost only that mask...

Cheers,
Axel

looks nice! check your emails when you got time ;D

I do wish to post here on behalf of RedRelay as I feel that some things were misspoken on the post by Axel.

We don't have space constraints on RR. What we do want is standardization. And, as QuickTime is the current leader in all aspects of showing RED footage online thus far, it is the format we choose to support.

What we are looking for is consistency. If all can vote on a standard format to release videos in that is not QuickTime that proves to be ultimately more efficient at displaying correct values then we will take that into consideration. But, seeing as how most of the people viewing these clips are Mac folk, most of the people are editing FCP, and all of the footage that has not been R3D at this point has been QuickTime, we feel the need to keep with that unless something else comes along that people are willing (on a wide scale) to use instead of QuickTime.

If you TRULY believe your footage is best viewed in another format, let us know! But, Axel posted 3 different formats which, for the sake of consistency, we believe, is not the best way to go.

Axel, if you feel that one format is better than QT, the please, feel free to put it online, but posting three major formats is, in our opinion, not in the best interest for us or the RR community.

I think WMV HD should be an option if a RED shooter so wishes.
I can't tell you how many clients I have that WILL NOT INSTALL
QUICKTIME. Some of them are complete computer idiots.
I was sitting with a client the other day and he wanted to
show me something. He only has a crappy PC, so he goes to this
website and he says "The video won't play". It was a QuickTime,
he had seen it at one of his clients offices. I had my MAC with me but no access to a wireless. So I installed QuickTime for him and he thought it was
a major ordeal....This is what I deal with. I have both QT and WMV files
on my site and I would say the clients I have are looking at the WMV about 90% of the time. Of course I prefer QuickTime.

Well again, 99% of RedRelay users are Mac or RED folk anyway so installing QT is ultimately a non-issue. The concern is finding the format that best supplies the end user with the proper image.

QUICKTIME.

.

Yes i know a lot of PC customers dont't like quicktime cause they couldn't use it on their crappy pc's .not all of our customers having powerfull pc's :matrix:

Hi,

sorry for answering so late. I've already seen the positive, and well, it looks like it was never something else than film. All the color and the depth is great, it is way better than what I am used to when customers shot on HD.

We exposed it for easier viewing as 2.4 in a 1.85 cache, so "letterboxed".

But the final format will be 2.4 supercinemascope, because it underlines the closed look of the bunker... claustrophobic!

We will surely post info when we are done and have the final on film (which we will do in any case, just of ourselves if required).

Thanks,
Axel
