  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED ONE Shooting in Berlin, Germay - First clips from "Cold Storage" (Working Title)

Shot on January 14th and printed to film already? Wow. That sounds really fast. Is that a typical turnaround?

Good job and great stills. Can't wait to see the final film.

Well, the film out is just a test for us internally to see how the footage holds up on the cinema (but there is absolutely no doubt it does). As we have our own film recorder: Yes, its a typical turn-around time.

To give you a rough schedule of our performance in this field:

We had a customer, a major car manufacturer from asia, who's agency called us on a friday if we would achived to make a commercial and have more than 2000 copies of it being distributed on film by next friday. It happened, on 35mm film, more than 2000 copies. And the commercial made almost from scratch. But I do not necessarily like this kind if schedules :)

Thanks,
Axel

Nice footage Axel and i am looking forward for the edited teaser!

May i ask what was your workflow with Fu5? I intend to use the same for advanced color grading after Redcine. Did you load it as DPX sequence and worked in Float or some other way? Was Fusion's Camera Shake used for the explosion shot?

Thanks, Miltos

Hi Miltos,

give me a little time until early next week to elaborate on this, I am in hurry right now. Workflow is important, so think a detailed answer makes more sense than a "we did it" here :)

Stay tuned, more to follow,

Axel

Congrats guys. Super cool footage.
I also attended the Red test yesterday in Zürich and I have to say that the cam rocks. There is some workflow stuff that has to be adressed but eveything else is "badass".

I'm realy happy to get my cam soon.

Tim

Have you noticed that we did NOT get the sun protection switching on when those burning torches point towards the camera?

very great work i am shocked especially about grading it was so beautifull
first i noticed that you didnt have (sun or brigth area problems).. so what did you do for preventing that from happenning..

LOOK AT here :w00t: what did you do ?? :whistling: this is what is RED invented for ..
congrats

Great footage Axel, I am delighted everything worked out.

I downloaded the WMV files instead of the QT's as I was in a rush and they fail to play smoothly on my laptop, but took a glimpse at the stills and visited the film's site. Have to say that I am the farthest from a horror/creature film fan there is, but I LOVE the premise of the film: trapped under Berlin just as the wall comes down, what a nice little idea, it has all the ingredients for that one-sentence pitch to a executive and more. Hopefully, and I say this respectfully, you guys won't get bogged down with two many of the ill-repeated ad nauseum formulaic set ups of this type of film. Good luck!

And BTW, I see you're looking for investors for the film, feel free to PM me with a budget or a sponsor proposal or whatever you have. I may be able to help.

Actually, nothing :)

It seems that the camera needs so much brighter light sources to really burn out and show this effect, that we had not been able to produce them at all.

Anyhow, situation in outdoor summer use may be different, but who is shooting upwards in high noon sun anyway?

I think we can be quite confident that its not going to be a big issue.

Axel

Yes there is plenty of noise but the lighting scheme looks very low key,

Look at the shot when he is on the hallway floor, there is basically no source except for the flashlight and some very ambient fill.

Adam,

thats pretty correct. The walls of the bunker had been way to bright to use much additional lighting beside the "real available" ones. Clearly things got modified with some fog and those ultra-cool torches (they really BURN as you see).

Its correct, the blue channel is sometimes not the very best. But hey guys, ever worked on 35mm film scans? I've done a lot of work with true 35mm film scans recently, similar situation, low key available light. Forget it if you think there is much more in film than in this blue channel. We got sometimes scans back that showed as low as 4-5 bits of use in a 12 bit Spirit DataCine best light scan.

It was clearly not "odd" graded - just quick & rough, more of a technical correction. No secondaries yet.

So please wait until the shots are finished :) They are currently meant for letting you know what we are working on.

Cheers,
Axel

Great footage Axel, I am delighted everything worked out.

Dan,

thanks. Your efforts turned out just in time. Btw, the press was on-set and will be here during post production, there is more to come!

Best wishes,
Axel
