  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED NAB Speculation thread...

Well,

NAB is two weeks away, Reduser is deathly boring these days (with the exception of crappy camera test threads and a lot of bitching about a proxy module) . Refreshing the new threads list is like walking through a flea market where every other booth sells a QUAD battery adaptor (I don't know why people sell these I love mine).

so let's start guessing what the announcements will be.

WHAT DO YOU THINK RED WILL ANNOUNCE AT NAB?

My top serious guesses.

Probables
1. Dragon upgrade starts at NAB, cost is 7500$ because of tech advancements (epic only, scarlet gets epic upgrade path priced at 9500$
2. Odemax info is given with a slate of films available in 4k in the coming year
3. RED projector consumer and industrial versions announced, pre orders taken, home version under 5k$
4. Big price drop on SSD media with new sizes announced and a slight price reductions on battery prices.
5. Beta 4.0 becomes release build 4.1.0
6. Turbo rocket announced for 7500$ regular rocket price drops to 3000$
7. Red announces R E D U L A (red university Los Angeles) as an evolution/permanent home to Reducation.
8. Redcine X REDcode encoding beta software shown, priced 49 on redstore
9. EPIC ipad app released, 79$
10. No matter what happens Redusers will want much more for much less.

wild guesses Satire (humor) warning :)

1. Dragon will also go into a new body design that is a more complete shooting package out of the box with red going back to a REdone style design with more features (like a built in proxy module) in a bigger body than epic and a smaller body than the redone. It shoulders beautifully out of the box.
2. RED moves into the distribution business with odemax, pisses Hollywood off, moves to Vegas.
3. RED announces Deanan Dasilva is returning to red, new firmware in the ensuing months is released hourly.
4. Ketch Rossi becomes RED's official Internet spokesperson in charge of community outreach, filling in for Jim when he's on vacation.
5. Sony and RED have a beer together in Vegas and decide to resolve their diffences in a UFC pay per view event (the event is shot on Red) many pacquiao announces his retirement into Larry merchants microphone.
6. RED releases documentary film entitled: "breadbox" the story of red digital cinema.
7. Redusers continue go onto reduser to mostly bitch and complain until jim or Jared post at which point everything is "awesome" again.

1. Red dragon begin at NAB , cost 8000$ for EPic and Scarlet. 18 stop and 2000 iso native , ..NOW..
2. Update at system cooling, new Fan.
3. New Redcine-x beta whit support at Dragon and Motion control.
4. New Redcode with Redgamma4 and Redcolor4
5. Module Meizler star ship at NAb with new mini Redmag , and new support for 3D lut and proressss 4444 :)))
6. Jim announce new module proressss "module Toia" start shipping at July.
7. Redray ready to ship at NAB ...NOW...
8. Announce ready to ship at july for Redprojector 4k.


These are my predictions :cheers2:
 
So WHY is the Dragon sensor update $7500!? RED sait it wuld only be $6, and naw the say is it going to be $75? RED SUCKS!


(Just thought I would see how it feels to be one of the complainers... so far, no joy.)

HA ha... Any one in their right mind will never put me in charge of anything to do with News, I'll just spill the beens all over the place on DAY ONE... ;)

I have already proved at my own expenses that I'm not good when it comes to keeping secrets, but I am working on it... So you never know!
 
Actually, with no future for Dragon-enabled Scarlet bodies it sorta makes sense to introduce new improved top-level camera for $40K+ with crazy specs (and maybe FF35 sensor?) to dominate over the competition like F65, inevitable Alexa 4K, Aaton Delta and the upcoming 70mm/IMAX digital cinema camera from Panavision. Kind of Epic Studio if you like. Well, maybe not this year, but I can see Epic-D 1.0 (upgraded with the new sensor and OPLF) eventually moving to the place of Scarlet and the arrival of Epic-D 2.0 with the new awesome and bitchin' body (well, basically the dream camera all over again). Time will tell, anyway.

P.S.
I'm in for RED Rockumentary..., oops sorry, loving "Sound City" doc too much lately :). Who knows, it may happen closer to the official 10th anniversary of the company...

There are some fan improvements out there. The biggest cause of the noise in the fan is the grill design. Mods to the grill design can reduce the noise up to 45 percent and several db

I actually made one only Makerbot. It works great! I just put it in for interview situations. I'm looking into getting some carbon fiber ones made.

ill post a couple of pics.

I don't care about the proxie module anymore... I've been asking for 2 years now, so by the time it finally comes out it will be 3 years... By the time it finally comes out, I will have moved to Premier full time and simple computers will have got good enough to be able to eat up and spit out R3ds with little effort. Ill stay with 5k raw editing and exporting out 16bit 4k masters all from a laptop and a thunderbolt red rocket.. I suspect Prores will become a codec of the past for me in about 1 to 2 years. .... Maybe less. Time will tell.

And I agree David. Reduser is dead. Nab will be another flop. Lots of announcements of gear that you will see and touch on the day, but sadly won't be releases ever.. Or may come out in another year or two. Red is a small company at the end of the day.

Im just happy with what I have right now. It's serving me well. Love my Epic as it is. :) dragon chip is about the only thing I would like and honestly not fussed when it comes out.
