  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Mysterious SKULL

GoPro,....

If you gear back your data rate, use thing TB2/3, or wireless HD solution, a lot of things are possible. There ate ways to do it smaller. A small remote head and lens is possible, sure it might only be 4j, but so us the competition maybe. You plug it into the brain and run it at full frame size and rate, hitter. But people will mainly just tether it for POV with a suitable kens. Once you start flying it around, then you get issues needing compression, and maybe amini brain mini module and ,battery, but it doesn't need to be redcode, but a simpler cheap HQ codec. There are ways Phil.

Much of the reason other camera companies that do the large tethered umbilical cord solution is to be as small as the current DSMC Style bodies.

There's no real reason to do a corded solution like that with Red cameras with this general body type.

Who said it had to be corded? '-)

Good on ya. I was uncertain, now we know. I have seen mic apertures that look like this before.

Exactly. I never thought these are screws despite the cross groove. And I still don't :)

besides that: the Side SSD has a new button layout, too. So....

Scarlet MX is pretty handy too. I remain happy. A good trade in can help keep market values buoyant though.

Yes there was an upgrade from RED ONE M to Epic ($19.5k value trade in, insane deal) it was just a lower trade in value then the RED ONE MX, but I haven't gotten the impression there will be anything like this for Epic MX to WEOPON. I don't have the resources or necessary need to go DRAGON before June or whatever so one can only hope. Otherwise I guess I will finally be stepping out of the upgrade path.

That said, the Epic MX is an awesome camera and is fully capable of giving you beautiful images to tell a story.

Alright. This is too weird It's as though RED did a product placement with the Huffington Post.

Is This A Dragon Skull On Mars?

Let's see.

Head = Skull + Brain

I remember years ago, Steve Jobs commissioned a Italian designer to design the next computer case, and when he went there they showed him a case designed like a skull, thgestory goes, he flew back and used the next box case instead. Jim was a friend of Steve, liked him. Jim was a fan of an old camera they used in the apolo moon missions, and made a camera with similar form factor. Could it be possible he is designing something skull like after listening tovSteves story, something so hideous it has to be hidden in a box in the back of one funky looking convertible. I'm joking :)

I would actually like to see a camera model designed by Jonny Ive and his team. THAT would be interesting!

We already have one Terry, an IPhone. :) Buy seriously, it would be nice to discuss what one would look like putting asside jokes about it being a rounded white boxes that looking like a scarlet with a large full face white touch screen with a single large record button on it. :) I'm thinking something tablet like, like my old Sharp viewcam, called an iviewcam. A six inch+ screen is a must to see the scene, along with zoom focus assist. Apple would need to sell it with a freindfly camera app, and vizzygig.

Actually, I realize I wasn't clear on what I was suggesting. What I'd like to see is Jonny Ive and his team be hired by RED to design the form factor to enclose the technology that RED develops for the camera. I definitely don't have confidence that J. Ive & Company would know what to put in a Digital Cinema Camera.

Sorry, you didn't mention cinema camera. Good idea, but we might end up with a white and darkgrey camera. I think Apple has the ability to do it, but maybe not to get it right the first time. A processing and pro codec is easy enough, but how to design things to run and use them for pro cinema use is much deeper.

You may want to know more about Jony Ive before making such remarks. He alone has designed a multitude of products and he is but one of the designers, engineers and other talented people at Apple. Say what you like about Apple product history, but that history alone is no gauge for potential.

Well don't blame me Scott, I'm the one that said I think they can actually do it, but this far up the pro chain we should be realistic that it might not be perfect the first time. I'm simply not overstating what may happen. You can't always be right if you always overstate things :) If you look at some of my old design concepts they look like they come from Apple, but where years before, and I have a friend with his own little custom computer company (inclouding custom OS and processir) with pre-apple design stuff on his site. Red should hire one of us. Believe me a lot of stuff on the consumer hi tech market is rat shit, don't expect too much from even Apple. A few of us could kill it, but too much time gone by.

The stuff I've done on camera design advancement when I was better, is truly staggering. It's not just Jony, there is bound to be several thousand similar people in the world. In matter of fact I get surprised even by what my sort of step brother comes out with, very rational or insightful. Just genes I suppose, me, him, Graeme and Jony have similar genetic background. I actually knew a guy that did work with silicon graphics on his idea for surround 3D images/capture, like they did latter in the Matrix. I just sat there listening to him not letting him know I'd already come up with a similar technique to what he was proposing by the mid to late 80's. But he was a bit fanciful and erradict, and fell out with SGI, and did not really have it. I've got another friend who used to be a well known entertainer, has met multiple world leaders, and is convince about how right he is and his great deductive ability and inventiveness, all of which are not his strong points, and very erradict and grandiose. They didn't have the right stuff.

To make it worse, we live in an area where people with mental CLOGS on can get promoted to positions, and national positions, of authority, who discriminatingly, prejudicially and irrationally think that any moderate financially costable improvement is grandiose. The area around 300km to the south of us has very little natural benefit and is constantly propped up by the government, but the people there walk all over us with what they can archive. That area, like parts of Sydney, a main center of such things in Australia, is very Ive genetically. Trying to do business here with such moronicy, is incredible. Yet the clogged rullers of these people, fiercely resist uncompromised improvements and their turf, for cheap painful for people tacky that is costed more in the long term. Why pull your weight, community improvement wise, when you can be second last and find more joy socialising and drinking. It's no wonder all the good people leave places like this leaving insecure overconfident self centered irrational professionals in charge making life miserable for the rest of us. But the people have turned over here and become a bit more like those 300km further down south.
