I bought the Link Adapter for my Komodo thinking I could Geta nice stable connection without fumbling with Wifi.

But no from Day 1 it has been finicky - the right thing for RED to do is to send me a new one to test but no they want the whole thing sent so they can inconvenience someone whoa just paid $700 for the pleasure.

What is wrong with RED - poor support?

I am in Sydney and it is simply pathetic here. at those prices the right thing to do is to send a new one up rather than make excuses.

I'm clearly not RED support but I do have that adapter and rely on it quite a bit.
My Link adapter has been solid over the years I've had it.

What type of finicky behavior are you experiencing?

RED likely wants you to send your camera in because there is a possibility that the camera contacts Komodo link uses to connect to your camera body might be damaged or dirty and they need to be able to rule that out.

I also heard of some people installing the Link adaptor with the Komodo powered up which can potentially fry the contacts.

Thanks Brian, This has been a a problem from Day 1.
and I know the camera is always off whenever I have removed it. So that has ruled that possibility.
Previously at least it used to work sporadically. But since getting my new iPhone 16 Pro Max and updated to latest iOS.
It does not work at all.

I wonder if anyone else here has the adapter.

Did you enable HotSpot on your iPhone ? This is unfortunately required for tethered connection on iOS...
Does the phone asks if you want to trust the connected computer (camera) when plugged-in ?

Did you get to try an ethernet connection (using USB-C adapters on both ends) to a computer or iphone to see if the link worked in that mode ?

That's interesting. I have not used it on a 16 Pro Max .
I have used it a 14 Pro Max on the updated OS and have noticed any issues.

Just curious, are you experiencing connection issues or is the performance just laggy with choppy video and/or slow interface response.
Does RED Control not see the camera listed at all?

You should see the camera in RED Control as an option for the app to connect.
You would see the camera name with "LINK" at the end indicating that it is the connection tethered to the Komodo Link adapter.

Yes. This.

Thanks Mikael, Yes I have always known about the HotSpot - and that always says 1 discovered or confirmed that it is connected and I always say yes to TRUST.

Never thought to use a Ethernet cable with USB on both ends - isn't that the same as using a USB-C cable? That is confusing.
and if I do this - are there different settings. I'll have to look is there a ETHERNET connection available.

Interesting because ethos's what I do with my Canon C80 - Ethernet cable with a USB-C converter on the iOS end.

John at Gates Underwater made 2 nice quick reference sheets with examples of Ethernet connection :

USC-Ethernet to Lightning (using REDCONTROL on an iPhone)
USC-C Ethernet to USB-C iPad (also works on iPhone 15 and up) with the PRO app

This is with Raptor USB but will work the same on K-X or a Komodo with LINK adaptor.

It uses compatible BELKIN adapters but other brand could work. GiG-E is recommended and also note the manual IP setup on camera and iOS device (this is required as there is no router between them).
In those examples, camera has an IP of 10.10.10.10 and both gateway/router are set to the iPhone manual IP 10.10.10.1... net mask is 255.255.255.0

On the plus side, Ethernet can run much longer than USB and does not require Personnal HotSpot / sim card

depending on adapters (the lightning one in particular) power could be required, but it also can help keep the device charged all day.
