  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red in OZ

Given Ted will be flying out in early July, can he bring our RED ONE with him? :)

In all seriousness, though, I guess what I'd like to see, hopefully in shipping form by SMPTE, is working FCP6-Color interaction with REDCODE RAW 4K and REDCINE tips.

Hi Davo,

What are the plans for #903? In QLD I have only seen FilmNorth #1124 Port Douglas and I hope to be receiving #1100.

David

Just wondering if any of the Australian RED buyers have checked whether GST and/or import duty will be charged when their cameras get shipped to OZ?

I haven't paid either for a long time because I've always snuck gear in amongst a whole bunch of other equipment that's listed on a Carnet. Obviously that won't be possible if I order a RED when NAB gets underway :-)

Ive bought gear in from OS before, you WILL pay GST, but NO duty.

Leave tonight for a few days in SF before roadtrip to Vegas.
Might see you at NAB Mike to get a progress report on how SMPTE is shaping up.

I'm expecting 2007 to be slightly different than THIS

Hey Scott, Im from Welly. Now have a Production Company in Perth. Used to hire gear of you guys and know Rocky. We ordered our RED on Thursday.

ACS night......?

ACS night......?

hey guys.....
After reading Mikes post about Ted possibly coming down to Oz for SMPTE, i have made contact with the guys at the ACS here at the NSW branch, to see if they are interested in running a night of some description, and also to see if they can aquire Ted's services while he is here in Oz, to give members and guests a bit of a demo etc.
I am waiting for a response now from the ACS, and then we'll see were we go from there....
cheers
Paul

Anyone feel like hosting an Australasian user group website sometime?.

Hey Dave, I'll sign up for this. I have the resources, should we start thinking about it ?

Sorry I'm coming in so late in this conversation (Keeping up with all the Nab news has been a full time job !). I'm Red# 1084, and am in Sydney. I run a production company here (Chaotic Pictures), and am interested to know if I know anyone here personally (been working on studio pictures at Fox since Matrix Reloaded. I also went to the Quantel 4k screening a few months ago (but didn't meet anyone from the forum)).

I'm extemely interested in this idea of an Aussie support group, I am already in negotiations to implement digital workflows for 2 Aussie feature productions (more of that in next post), and am keen to develop a bit of a family with all you guys.

Hey guys,

I am currently in negotiations to develop and implement fully digital workflows (hopefully with the Red) for 2 up and coming feature productions (My last studio position was Technical Supervisor on Superman Returns). One is to be shot in August, and one in November.

It is still very early days, but the one that is slated to shoot in August is from a fairly big Aussie director. Our camera (#1084) is not scheduled for delivery until early October, so that will rule it out of the first shoot. We would also need 2 cameras for that shoot, as there will be a second unit, and a B-cam when only main unit is shooting.

So my question is, is anybody that is lowish on the res list, interested in having a talk about possibly supplying their rig for this ? The timing is tight, obviously because we don't have a relaible schedule for delivery yet, and have no way to start work on a workflow for a little while at least, but I will need to start bringing resources together soon if I'm to convince them to go Red (They walked out of our last meeting where I screened them the milkgirls footage, saying "if only the camera was going to be here in time) :ninja:

Seth,

I'm pretty sure my balls would be on a stick if I sent one of the first Red cameras in the Southern Hemisphere to Australia for a job!

Catch up with JB at Lemac. His first 2 cameras are low res numbers from memory and Mike from FX is number 22.

With your experience we would all be very interested in your feedback during your shoot, given you would be one of the few to be able to give an honest appraisal against a Genesis shot feature.

Thanks Rocketeer,

I've known about Lemac for a while, I'll go over and have a chat to JB as well. I'll definetally stay in touch with everybody here as I'm very interested in developing a bit of a family with fellow innovators. As we all know, our industry is very small, we have to stick together !

Cheers,
Seth.

Good to hear from you Seth,

TO ALL AUSTRALIASIAN USERS......particularly those KIWI's...

I know everybody has been threatening to do something for the last couple of months regards setting up a local user group.

I feel we should discuss/agree what type of structure everyone wants the user group to have, what it does and what people want out of it.

So we can move forward and actually get some of the things we want done.

Comments?

Hey David,

I just noticed you are like 10 mins drive from me :)

Lets get some input from the guys here .. What does everyone think ?

If no one has any objections - I will host the Australasian user website.

What would everybody like to see in a user group ?

Perhaps we should organise a Perth get together, for those interested in RED?

Good idea. Or we can all fly to Sydney if need be - we're used to that. Seriously, though, a Perth get-together would be good. My Red won't be here until October. It would be good to meet other users before then.

Terry,
I like your suggestion about indemnifying users under an assoc. umbrella as it's free and simple to set up.

Anyone interested in group Skype?

Anybody up for a 'meet & greet' tele conference this weekend?

I just had a call with Terry over Skype, and it's great!
Download the free software, make sure you have speakers and a $5 mike. Calls to other Skype members are free.

I understand Skype can have a 9 way conference call with online members and can also include external telephone numbers.
I'm sure we can try and have a civilised free for all over the phone line...maybe a little round robin talk/intros/opinions.

Another thing is I gonna send around an email to all who've contacted me at 'david@farland.com' so you can put in the contacts details you wish to share and the details you don't. i.e. name, telephone number, city, email, skype etc.

Cheers,

ps: don't mind being the office temp for a 'little' while.....note little!
