  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red is everywhere. In more places than will ever be documented or shared. Features, VFX elements, commercials, music videos, scientific imaging, military use, television, documentaries, events, weddings, and more. One tool to rule them all :)

FYI, I visited a studio today that I do work with a whole ton and found out that their laser recorder and film scanner are getting sent to "puppy lake" this year. Red, 4k delivery, and digital cinema in general are more relevant and important than ever. Master prints will still be made for a while, but we know where it's going from here. Got me a little emotional. Hell I'll miss that good old densitometer and microscope for centering, but for all of us here who saw that writing on the wall; we knew it was coming. S35 isn't going to be a viable option much longer for productions. Digital capture and ingestion at this point are the future. And the future is now. I haven't shot a single frame of S35 this year and at this point I can imagine that I will again.

*fyi I made a bet in 2007 that those would be decommissioned in 2012. I'm $100 closer to my Epic/Dragon today.

LOL, haha, buy the Epic today get the free Dragon Upgrade.
What is there to lose?
 
Just like Avid and FCP7, Red should have a "Trade your Alexa or F65, get a half priced EPIC-X

There are only three which I can think of:

1. I want to shoot a video for internet use only (Vimeo, YouTube etc.)

2. I want to shoot film

3. Scarlet (which others have already mentioned)

Take my opinion with a grain of salt as I am a photographer who has not used a RED camera... yet.

Since the unboxing of my original Red One shooting on anything else has simply not been an option! Was forced to shoot on a 5d once and it was a fiasco!!! I never took another DSLR gig!!!

Back in the pre-reduser days when Jim was forum-busting about the slim pickins offered by the major camera companies, we were all, like him, clamoring for a decently priced camera which could live up to our expectations.

Jim reversed the course by building a camera which invites us to live up to what it can do.

Pretty cool.

Am near blunt broke, can make a 35mm adaptor come up to realworld 2K but I can't build my own EPIC yet. A lame excuse I know but it will suffice until a better one comes along.

While this impressive list is part of what has defined Red, it is the future potential of DSMC and RDC that truley define what Red is.


And my reason for not shooting EPIC is that my Scarlet is good enough to shoot 4K.
 
I don't shoot on Epic (very often that is) because I made a commitment to my beloved Scarlet along time ago, and she finally choose me on November 3rd, 2011 ;)
