  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Europe - it's Official.

Sorry Johan, but did you ever check low-cost-flights? There is no place cheaper to reach from all over EU than London. Wise decision. When will the first Red-Day be?

Fritz

God bless EasyJet and Ryanair, where would the UK be without them - lol.

Andrew.

Not to mention the nightmare of the English measure units... Try to explain to an Englishman that the rest of Europe is using kg and not pounds, meters and not inches or feet... This counts to sell/repair technical stuff.

Man, and I will have to find an Italian restaurant near the Red headquarters in London to avoid fish & chips...

Jean-Charles

Cher Jean-Charles,

these are the reasons, why Red chose the UK and not France:

1. the Brits speak English. Asking the cab-driver to bring you to Red Headquarters will not let you end up in front of the Moulin Rouge

2. the Brits are "bilingual" when it comes down to metrics - you can find both measure units anywhere and people know what they are talking about

3. the Brits used to build up a whole empire just in search for recipes to improve their cuisine. The French instead got lost somewhere in the Sahara. Fortunately, after having found some good stuff, the Brits built the Commonwealth to share these culinaria riches and invited millions of people from all over the world to come to cook for them (except Americans). So we don't have to rely on fake Italians when we are hungry.

4. ...forgot it... maybe was about strikes and stuff like that...

 Fritz

I don't know where I am with them most of the time. Well, thats not entirely true: its normally about 200 miles from where I thought I was landing!

Jarred, as for the bonfire pissers; I guess it's the nature of the beast, but it is a pretty ugly spectacle and quite unedifying. The recent examples, both here and the IMS thread are totally uncalled for, and frankly just nasty.

There is also a hell of a lot os unfounded and uninformed nonsense being thrown around on this thread (isn't there always!) concerning the UK. Some of it may well be a bad attempt at humor, but the rest, well, I think I've made my feelings clear.

thats the plan...

We are co-ordinating with our logistics partners as well to scope out the various shipping times + custom impact to different territories, so even some non-Europe customers ( Africa, Asia etc) , may have RED EUROPE as their upgrade center for the fastest possible turn around, with of course load balancing between the two centers taken into consideration.

Jarred, no offense to our English friends, I rather be serviced through the USA - Lim Singapore

Thanks for sending two laughs to Norway :)

Never, ever trust Ryanair when they take your Laptop and say that they will handle it carefully. Never. Cling on to it with your life!

Dear Fritz,

You didn't read me carefully : although I'm French, I'm not for a Red store in France. I'm for a Red store in Germany. My reasons were professional : in Europe, the Euro rules. German people speak also English, wake up ! Moreover, a lot of professionals shoot more and more in Eastern Europe countries : Romania, Poland, Czech Republic... these countries are the future of Europe, believe it or not. Not your Commonwealth...

Munich, Frankfurt or Berlin would have been a great choice, this is just my humble opinion. Germany has a great tradition of cinema and photography (Zeiss, Leica, Arri, Sennheiser, do I need to say more ?)

By the way, abour the food, I was joking about fish and chips : you're right, if you want to eat well in the UK, you have to rely on foreign cuisine, except French cuisine, which is far too sophisticated for Englishmen who prefer to get drunk instead of enjoying a good Red (he he) wine.

So you chose Pinewood. Great! It wouldn't matter that much to me where it was as because I'm just as far from London as Geneva, Munich, Lyon, yet I'm in the UK.

I don't get why so many people complain about Red's business choices. It's up to them what products they decide to bring to the market and where they choose to base their head office and regional offices. We, the customers, choose whether to buy their products or not. End of.

But Pinewood. I wonder how many Red owner/operators can say they worked at Pinewood in 1960 before Bond was more than a twinkle in Connery's eye - 48 years ago good grief! I bet I'm not the only one though.

So does that mean that the cameras (Epic, Red 1, Scarlet) and accessories (for me personally most interesting is Scarlet) will, also, ship from London e.g. to the EU or do we have to pay the import taxes of our countries when importing from the US? Or is this "just" a service center?

Wow there's a lot of sour grapes coming from some of our European "friends" :) ...just goes to prove you can't please all the people all the time...

Pinewood's a great choice, lots of big budget movies & commercials shot there, lots of important companies based there too - I think it'll do no end of good for Red's growing reputation over here.

Will the Pinewood HQ sell any Red accessories or will it just be for repairs and upgrades?

Guys,

I do wonder how the Red Team feel when they have to announce something like this. In my opinion it's a good move. We have somewhere in Europe. Great. It happens to be a three hour drive from my house. Even better, good for me.

However to bring engineering and food into this is ludicrous. US closer to Germany, Pound vs Euro... please grow up. Either take what's offered or vote with your feet, but do me a favour put up or shut up and let the Red guys get on with helping those who want it. Jingoistic Bullshit we can do without.

32.5 minutes from me with a prevailing wind and an empty M25 . . . . . . . . . . . . actually i have done it in 25 at 5 o'clock in the morning on a Saturday when going to work on Bond doing overtime.

Andrew.

Cool,

You'll be there before me them... about 2.5 hrs!

Other end of the M40 for me. Nice easy run :)

Nice - lol.

I try and avoid the M40 Junction with the M25, i go through Denham - have no need to visit Deluxe now i will have my Red soon - well until filmout.

Andrew.

This is great news and despite what some are saying you couldn't have picked a better site in europe. when do you think red europe will open.
