  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Dual Outrigger Handle

]Rob and the RCX team are on fire with things like GPU and Rocket-X and the next version of RCX and REDCODE.

Next version of REDCODE?! Man, people don't give you guys enough credit for REDCODE. I feel like you just dropped a BOMB of info, and no one even blinked at it.

Heh. I was just thinking about how a product opportunity exists for someone here since the fixed outrigger handle is one of my most-hated components of the RED system, yet one utterly necessary for doing any thing close to a DSLR like handheld shoot.

I guess my outrigger handle is for sale now, but I expect there'll be few takers. Placing an order for this right now! Thanks gang!

Nice to have options, and thank you but I wish this was angled down
It is going to stack higher than needed with a tactical top plate 2.0, unless there is a new plate that is built to work with this

Hope you understand what I mean ; )

Graeme is doing shit with color that will blow your mind.

Jarred, will the new color from Graeme only effect the dragon?
Will next generation redcode only effect dragon?

Thanks!

Jarred, I loved using yours. You know who will love this. Bay. Yes. michael loves to run and gun and this he will embrace.

Me too.

Smarter manufacturing and smarter design. That makes a huge difference.

In the last 6 months, alot has changed around here and I can't even begin to explain how much better we are as a company.

Every single department has been completely overhauled and is performing better than ever.

Jim and I get to spend our time on design and product and the future without worrying about all the drama.

Engineering and manufacturing is purring like a fine tuned engine and Roshan and the product management team is all world.

The addition of ET has helped leaps and bounds to make sure stuff actually works :) .

The web team and the Bombsquad are putting out new product videos and content every week.

Our international offices that are in tune and representing.

The right people in the right positions.

And a special shout out to Brent.. who continues to keep me on my toes everyday.

Sorry.. that was a bit of diversion to your question. Just so proud of where our team is today that I thought it was worth sharing.

Can't wait till you guys see what is next...

Jarred - All of this is super exciting as the quality and design of RED stuff has always been top quality but, although understandable, a bit pricey. These new efficiencies are going to make RED gear the best in all regards.

Now as for this handle - and my other question - does anyone see the possibilities of mounting it under the front of the camera as part of a lightweight shoulder mount?

Nice ink on the guy in the product video. A lot of employers are uptight about that sort of thing - you can't even have hair dyed an unnatural color at Whole Foods - and it's nice to see that Red isn't, because there's really no reason to be.

Back in 2011, RED's NAB booth had a working tattoo parlor. I was walking around the floor, and all the camera makers had these nice, soft lit booths with cute models sitting and knitting or reading, next to chip charts. Then you walk over to RED's booth and if you wanted, you could sign up to get a tattoo during the show, and passerby would be looking through Epics at a contrasted, dingy tattoo parlor. As if to say "What do you mean RED's don't work in low light?!"

RED (or anyone else, for that matter) hasn't made waves by following standard conventions.

heh heh... this is exactly what I'm thinking too. Looking at it, I see no reason why that couldn't be mounted to the bottom of some kind of rod block, whether you're using 15mm or 19mm rods as part of your rig.

Revolutions, while fun and exciting, are a short-term affair. Over the-long term all manufacturers must be excellent at operations, process control and bean counting. Boring but true. This guy:

Apple, Google, Amazon, Walmart . . . yup, all very cutting edge at Operations - not Marketing as most people believe. If RED is to have a long-term impact on cinema then they must transition from disruptive upstarts to best of class in manufacturing. That will help reduce costs, improve reliability allows target dates to be made. When everyone has 4K then it is who drives down cost through innovation that wins. The iPhone costs Apple $210 to make - they sell it for $6-700 which pays for a shitload of R&D, acquisition and legal power.

Everything changes - with or without you.

What came into my mind when i saw the release of the outrigger dual handle was the quickplate shoulder pad, now i want this even more. This will make a really cool and small handheld setup.

I just hope there will be a way to mount this pad behind a REDVOLT XL module... ;)

Jarred,

The new REDCODE is just better optimized for GPU or there are some new compression tweaks?

It would be nice to have a variation on this which has slotted extension arms so that the handles could slide inboard/outboard and lock at variable distances away from the camera body. That way you could maintain a distance as you angle the rosette. This version would necessitate re-mounting the rosettes in certain configs.
