  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red drive trade in for SSD ?

Not sure what post you're referencing. #268 in that thread has nothing to do with anything remotely close to this subject on trades, SSDs or whatever. Neither does #286 or any of the surrounding posts to either, just in case you messed up.

There is no trade-in for RED Drives. Never was, never has been, never will be...

So, you have me confused.

It's been said since then that there will be no trade-ins. Don't know if I'll be able to track down where it was said... I wouldn't count on it happening. You'll probably have much better luck selling the RED Drives anyway -- still in demand, lots of people still shooting them with the RED One. It's rare that a RED Drive goes up for sale here and lasts more than a day or 2.

True REDdrive do not work (and never will) on Epic but there is indeed a trade-in in place for 256 SSDs : send your REDdrive to RED for evaluation. If it is functional they keep it and you get 50% of original REDdrive price off the SSD (- 450 USD)
It only works with 256 and as I understand it only 1 REDdrive can be discounted per SSD you buy.

Well, crap. How did I miss that? Oh well...

I wonder if they would discount off the 4-pack price. ;)

the 4 pack give you an instant 720 $ off each drive ! You pay an extra 30 $ for the box...

would be nice to be able to send 1-4 REDdrives to RED and get an additional 450-1800 discount but it is daydreaming as it would almost put the 256 at the 128 price !
 
I asked my Red rep and was told the trade-in will not apply to the 4-pack. It's kind of lame that we hand over our $900 drives for a discount of $450, yet Red will give a $720 discount to anyone well-off enough to buy four drives. I guess that's just how the system goes... the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
