  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED DAY Vegas 2010 - REGISTRATION OPEN

Just to drop my .02 cents in about the event. Everyone should get to Vegas if they can this year. If you haven't taken a Reducation course yet, register for it if you can. Then on the 14th, come and enjoy a day and night with us at the Reduser event. I promise you, we are planning a great event and we will reveal details as they get solidified. So, starting on April 8th, Vegas will become a RED hotbed, great opportunities to learn, take in the scenery, and then hang out and party/network with a lot of people passionate about not only RED, but filmmaking in general.

For those of you who have attended the event in the past, we're reworking the structure a bit to make it easier to take everything in. Oh, and I'm hoping to do a raffle that will go down as legendary.

You know there's always going to be a few surprises thrown in there too, so plan on making a day of it.

See you all in Vegas!

We are Tropicana up :) We'll see you in Vegas - RedDay Ready :)

Let us know where to register or put me on the list

Sorry for sounding negative, but last years raffle was very disappointing. Only a few people won the vast majority of prizes. I hope there are ways to spread the prizes around this year.

btw, I got good rates at 'The Signature at MGM Grand' along with air through travelocity. Ended up costing less than 100 per night for a Junior suite. No more 'Circus Circus' for me after last year. I also rented a car if anyone is near where I'm staying and needs a ride to the event.

yeah, gearnex heads for everybody this year!

uh, there's a reason they call it a raffle - you're supposed to envy the winners. so that you go examine or go buy the product.

I don't care if I win anything, but it was sort of incredible that a few people won most of the prizes. It wasn't intentional, just wierd.
I purchased the tickets to help offset the cost of the event, and will do so again, but wierd is weird.

Hey Steve

Thanks for stepping back in to guide this extravaganza. If you need any help please let me know. I'm staying at the Tropicana and would be glad to assist.

Steve,
Any thoughts given to an after-party?
Last year since we were all off-strip there was only one club, the Voodoo Lounge, and everyone went there, it was cool. A bunch of us pooled and bought the VIP suite and then invited a bunch more in. A fun way to party till the morning.

But now that we're at the Tropicana, which has no club, there's no clear place to go afterwards.

Can't comment about last year, but that's how it was at the '08 event. The majority of the prizes went to only a couple people. I noticed one of those winners had a mountain of raffle ticket stubs and it wasn't a huge event by any means. I should've thrown a wad of cash at some tickets I guess. Would've done better than I did at the craps tables. I did win a t-shirt though..

We'll see what happens this year. I wouldn't mind winning a geared head or something like that. Hehe.

Fair enough. As I said, this year will be different. Raffle has been slightly lower on priority list past couple of years because I was putting more emphasis on the content of the event. This year we will have content and a really good (maybe great) raffle. The multiple winners thing is tricky. The guy who won a lot of the prizes the first year, also won at the Final Cut Supermeet. Wondering if maybe he just buys lots of tickets or maybe he is really lucky.

I can do one of three things.

A. Limit one prize per person
B. Limit Two prizes per person
C. Win as much stuff as you want. Want to buy 5000 raffle tickets, fine by me.

I'm actually leaning towards option B. What do you guys think?

Happy to do it.

Will let you know about the help part. Thanks for offering!

It's Vegas man, we'll find a place to party - guaranteed! Just have to keep Vlad under control. I've already been informed by Vegas authorities that if he shows up, they may shut the whole thing down. Apparently, he got a little wild last year.

I was one of the guys who won several prizes last year. Spent $40 and was very lucky. Did the same for the FCPUG in 08 and 09 and won nothing.

For the record either A. or B. would be fine.

Hmm, I'd consider researching how to live stream to UStream from a MBP, if anyone is interested in doing what I had to do last year:

Sitting on Ustream with a bunch of others typing "FIND JIM!!! SHOW us TeH Scarlets?!"

You could tweak it by allowing people to trade up. This can be a nice compromise to the people who buy a lot of tickets. So let's say I already prizes A & B and then I win C, I have to pick which 2 I want and the one I dont want goes back in the pile.

definitly option C...who buys multiple tickets, should win multiple prizes.
hey, i guess the dude paid for the tickets, right?

if not, just limit the number of tickets one person can buy. (which is not in favor to the organisation selling the tickets)

another option: vary the price of the tickets, its minimum x dollars, but you can donate more if you want...happens at wellfare shows.

One change I'm considering this year, is spreading the raffle throughout the day. So there would be a few opportunities to win in case you can't stay until the end. Biggest prize would of course be at the end. Give people incentive to stay (not that anyone needs any incentive) and it's a good way to send everyone off. I'm thinking big on this one, really big. Whether I'm successful, we'll see. :-)

Yeah, I've been thinking about that too. 'cept last year the camera was to far away to see anything. Maybe we can get a camera set up closer to the stage...

There will be free WI-FI there, right Steve?

I bought 10 dollars worth, didn't win anything. Would have bought more, but it was a half day trek to the nearest atm machine (hint, hint) and I needed cash to buy beer. Priorities ya know.
