  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED DAY... Feb. 13th

QQ WHEN is RED day coming to the east coast!! not fair that you guys are getting all the fun and We not getting NONE!!! JIM where are you !!!!!

...The Scarlet of 2007 was really just a thumbnail sketch of what this version has evolved into. Save your money-- be sure you get one. Jim talked about having these in volume but I really believe there will be a huge demand for this model. He's gonna sell more Scarlet fixed lens units than all his other models put together and the design and build reflects this.

Yes..the scarlet 2007 was an MOS crash cam compared to what they
have now. Really you could shoot features on it.

Based on quality per dollar it's the most impressive
camera in the whole line-up....you wonder how
this little box can offer so much at such a price.

Still if the camera is coming out sometime this year...
would have thought they would've shown scarlet footage
at such an event...maybe they're waiting for NAB ?

Personally, I love the fact that they are pushing the boundaries, and don't settle for the easy option, or even the decently hard one. RED - "Impossible was yesterday."

Apparently they are still working on the ASIC. When you push the envelope this hard there is no such thing as a predictable schedule.
As the saying goes, the difficult can be done today, the impossible takes a little longer.

hey guys where is this button that exports the look to the camera from redcineX? or what vers. does this? That's sweet!

EDIT: never mind just found it!

Does the bottom of the Epic have 2 3/8" threaded holes (with 50mm spacing) like the Red One.
From the pictures it looks like only one. 2 are important so the camera does not get loose when on tripod, steadicam, ...

In Build 104, it's File>Save Current Look To Camera

Is it just me or is this option greyed out for everyone? I can't get it to work. Am I missing something or is it just not enabled yet?

Not missing anything, it's a very new feature as in not out yet. I was talking to one of the guys yesterday, they only finished it Friday night and it's in the test build being showed on stage. But we saw it working and it was really cool!

It was a great day and thanks to everyone that made this day possible. I could've used a few more hours in there now that I flied across the globe, so I could have met more of you guys, but I guess the RED crew was pretty tired after a long day at the studio. For me personally - the best thing was the QA session and Michael Cionis presentation.

Yes, three sessions in one day makes for a better event, with more even access to people, displays etc. than trying to do one long open session. I'm pleased you enjoyed Michael's presentation as he does indeed do good presentations! And I reckon Q&A is important for so many reasons.

Thank you to the entire RED team for making this possible. I really enjoyed the event.

I'm especially excited for all the new broadcast television support, Scarlet integration, quick turnaround tools. This will change broadcast forever.

I had one quick question though that I forgot to ask.

How does the 1080P of the Scarlet compare to the 5D, F35, and RED One zone chart that was displayed?

RED Day LA was tantalizing... The 4k footage was surreal! Looking forward to using the new REDCine-X features, metadata, looks-to-camera, etc. Still dreaming about REDLine / REDRocket harware support in FCS apps, and of course, to two VERY cool new cameras! Thanks very much to everyone at RED who put this event together. You guys are showing the world how business / customer interaction should be done. You listen, and you make the industry better. WAY better! My hat is off to you and I can't wait for what's coming up next. Thanks again!

Best,

- Jordan

I would like to thank all those that posted pic's of the Red Day Event! It is great for those of us that did not make the trip to see the new products and RedUsers interaction with them.

I was wondering if any VIDEO was taken of the event and if so, will it be posted?

Thanks again to all for the great images and info. :) Thanks to the Red Team for hosting what seems to be a VERY successful event.

Only works when in RedColor/RedGamma, which aren't implemented in a camera build quite yet. But I have exported the file as far back as build 82 of RC-X.

definitely enjoyed RED Day. I am stoked to have met new motivated entrepreneurs in this industry, and look forward to working with RED workflow! Props to the RED Team for making this all possible! Thank you.

As I told Jim personally at the event, thank you to all the RED folks who were there to answer our questions. Every time I read one of Graeme's posts I'll have to inject a really thick accent for him ;)

Also thanks to Michael Cioni for our lengthy discussion and dealing with my noobishness :D

The 4K projector and screen is really great, you really get to see what Ted was quoted on regarding 4K looking better on a screen than packed into a high pixel density screen.

The Mysterium X was truly awe inspiringly sensitive, in the live candlelit scene with the model I can assure all of you that the footage was as grainless as my own vision in the low light. I won't be surprised to see people taking slow-mo footage in such low light. The fact that ASA800-1000 is the sweet spot as compared to 320 or thereabouts is insane. "Choosing to shoot in at 800 in broad daylight," just for the highlight protection advantages etc... just wow. Looks like we might be investing in ND filters if we want any DoF outside...

Michael's tech demo of the REDCine-X 'looks' being applied in camera were just amazing. It sounds repetitive but the power of RAW is really a game changer—being able to preview and light according to a look you're going for without baking those settings to your footage is excellent.

To better the event for Las Vegas (which I will most definitely be attending as well), I'd suggest taking the booths with the DSMCs and gear, and either doubling the amount of such booths or at least separating them slightly to thin out the crowds gathered around them. The candlelight scene, the hands-on DSMC table and the long accessory table were all right next to each other and even if you got to the front to get your hands on things, you felt the pressure of those behind you to hurry up... that wasn't conducive to asking questions, and time spent waiting in line was time lost in the 3 hours that really flew by.

I really wish I hadn't had such a large, late lunch because the food looked delicious ;)

I agree with the part about everything being too close together. I wonder if it's for security reasons that they do this. It's been done like this at every RED event I've been to. The good news is that, if the Vegas event is like it was last year, the whole thing lasts for hours so there's plenty of time to ogle the gear! ;)

Some folks traveled a loooooong way to get to this event. "hands on" time is part of what makes all the traveling less painful.

I gotta say, though, that even though we didn't see any footage that we hadn't already seen on REDuser, I agree that there's truly nothing like seeing it on the giant screen projected at 4K. I understand why RED is pushing for this to become a standard. They claimed that the image quality is actually better when you view it at this size. I can't argue with this. The screen was as large as any screen I've seen outside of IMAX size and the image was immaculate! Now I really wanna see some RED footage on the super giant screen in Amsterdam.

I think in one of the sessions I did say "If we don't make summer, I'll be suicidal (tongue in cheek)". A bit over the top to make the point that we are late and it will kill me (figuratively) if we don't finish up by then. You had to be there. This is why I don't do magazine interviews... :-)
