The Bomb

The Bomb

Anyone get a chance to look into the Bomb EVF?

Yeah - it looks great. I couldn't tell the difference between that and the "old" one. They might've done something to the 'cause the image looked a lot more "calm" (for the lack of a better word).

Thanks Tony.

Since I purchased my Red One recently, I am going to wait for the Bomb EVF.

Perhaps it was the built-in heater that gave you a calming sensation.

Real Name Forum, just FYI.

The ASIC is up to 29 layers (from memory) - he said it was the most complex ASIC ever produced for any purpose in any industry.

It's not really encouraging to know that the first ASIC they've ever done is also the most complex one ever in any industry. Let's hope they can pull it off without much more delays.

Time for your real name...

Jim

So if Jim's going to "kill himself" if "new cameras" arent out by summer...does this mean Epic Tatto, or also Epic Production (stage 2) or all way down to Scarlet production as well?

Oh, and Jim, dont kill yourself regardless of schedule, there's a lot to live for, cigars, whisky, good imagery from Red, etc :-)

Red Day was awesome! Really enjoyed getting to see and hold Epic and Scarlet first hand. The fixed 2/3 scarlet lens looks incredible and the whole thing is about the weight of an hvx200.

Was also really cool to see footage projected 4k. Never seen that before. The only other time I think I've seen footage that sharp was when I saw District 9 projected digitally at AMC. I wonder what projector they use and at what resolution?

Thanks to everyone at Red for putting on a great show and letting me be a part of it!

Thanks to the whole Red staff. 3B had a great time and found it to be most informative. We can hardly wait to get our hands on the S35 we have a lot of stuff we want to get started on shooting.

The footage was incredible, thanks to all contributors. These are exciting times in which we live and you guys are a big contributor to that.

Oh yeah, Kelly, thanks for handling the registration.

RED DAY was awesome. Got to meet some pretty cool people and learn a lot from the various teams that were there. Scarlet and Epic looked great can't wait. The 3D booth was very sweet. Presentation was great. Nice to see a 4k image on a big screen; Thanks Sony I guess. Thanks for the Food and Drinks and cool lanyard. :patriot:

thanks to red, great event can't wait til the next one. how many companies of this status are going to open up their doors to the public and answer questions in person, i really applaud red.
also exciting to hear that jannard is serious about keeping the scarlet release on track!

4K is way beyond the here-and-now and needs to be seen to appreciated. It's been a few years since I last seen a true IMAX picture-- but man, if that's not what it hit me like. After the presentation they left an aerial shot over London paused and it felt like a medium-format chrome projected on a 40' screen. Stunning. The new Mysterium-X at ISO 1600 by candle-light presents revolutionary abilities. Kubrick and Alton went to a hell of lot of trouble and expense for their work and can eat their hearts out.

***Loved the peanut-butter pasta!**

Red Day was sweet. I think I was one of the maybe 5 females there!

Thanks Red for being so open and hospitable. I had a great time.

Big thanks to Jim and the Team for hosting this event. How many companies operating at the bleeding edge of technology reach out to their customers like this?

My goal was to find out when Epic and Scarlet will be released, and I asked in as many ways as I could from as many people as I could ask-- you know the answer. Hopefully Jim will have forgotten my name and what I look like before NAB in Vegas and I can get on his good side. In fairness, Jim is visibly more pissed about the delays than I am. Sorry for being one more broken record, Jim.

The 4K MX footage was as jaw-droppingly amazing as it promised to be. I really cannot wait to finally shoot my projects on it. This is a huge leap. We can really shoot 4K in candlelight now.

My impressions of the Scarlet Fixed is: Incredibly robust feel. very pro-level camera. There's nothing amateur at all about the lens in terms of build quality, fit and finish and the action of the electronic focus/zoom ring-- its top notch. All indications are this lens is an amazing work in its own right, I can't wait to see imagery from it. Scarleteers will think its worth the wait. Great balance as is, in the hand. Incredible options for various rigs. The form factor is much bigger than what was promised at NAB in 2007, but this is easily three times the camera than that iteration of Scarlet promised to be. I really want one. Red really over-delivered. The Scarlet of 2007 was really just a thumbnail sketch of what this version has evolved into. Save your money-- be sure you get one. Jim talked about having these in volume but I really believe there will be a huge demand for this model. He's gonna sell more Scarlet fixed lens units than all his other models put together and the design and build reflects this.

The 4K future is bearing down on us-- we're looking at a ballpark of 12,000 screens within 3 years in North America alone. IMO, It became so abundantly obvious to me, that 1080p capture is an incredibly short-sighted choice. For anything headed to the multiplex: go Red or go Film or go straight to DVD. Jim makes a very compelling argument for his baby- no hype- pure impirical evidence: resolution matters.

IMHO, If you haven't seen Red projected at 4K -- you cannot make an informed decision about it. It must be experienced in its native resolution. Once these 4K projectors propagate through the market and audiences see the pristine IMAX-like imagery of what a movie can look like... 1080p authored imagery will look less than "<". I've seen the live action parts of Avatar on film at 2K, its soft and laden with artifacts. The signposts are pointing to 4K acquisition. Filmmakers: don't let anyone try and convince you otherwise, it will matter to you in three to five years that your movie you've spent years trying to make, look as good then as it does now. Just my 2 cents.

It's not really encouraging to know that the first ASIC they've ever done is also the most complex one ever in any industry. Let's hope they can pull it off without much more delays.

In hindsight, would you also say that it is not really encouraging to know that the first camera they were ever going to do was also the first affordable 4k camera ever in any industry?

Personally, I love the fact that they are pushing the boundaries, and don't settle for the easy option, or even the decently hard one. RED - "Impossible was yesterday."
