Roberto,

Is that adjustable arm, that the LCD is sitting atop in picture 4, Red's solution for mounting a Bomb EVF or LCD at a variety of heights and distances?

There are SO many ways to mount everything. I would not worry about weight or ergonomics if you can afford a decent support package.
All support pieces were very light, solid, and put together they embarrass Optimus Prime.

Options, options, options.

Good on ya

Good on ya

Just a thanks to Jim and the RED Team for continuing to support us RED owners and users.
I bought a RED One as a learning tool after so many years of shooting features on 35.
Every RED event I go to makes me more excited about filmmaking. Today was no exception. From Jim's talk, to Cioni, to Stuart and Graeme to Matt and his cool AKS rail designs.
And a special thanks to making looks created in RedCine X export back to camera in version 135.

As Jim said, he started this company to continue the legacy of 35mm. We are getting very very close to respecting that heritage.

Peter

Hey Roberto thanks for those pics. I didn't see the fixed in there ... was it absent?

Thanks for the pics! Very stimulating!

When can I buy the mattebox?

Sorry, last thing I was thinking about was taking pictures.

It was, I held it. Very small! Feels about half my HVX in your hands, not even funny.

Since it was so light do you think it may have been the mockup that Ted had a few months back or do you know if it was the real thing?

Any focal length markings on the zoom? (I bet not !)

When you add the guts, batteries, redmote, LCD, and everything else my guess is that the 2/3 Scarlet fixed will be a little heavier than an HVX.

No focal length markings on the zoom.

The Red Gunner is incredible. I wish I could buy one now for my 7D. It weighs nothing (like maybe 1 pound). It's so incredibly versatile.

I'm working on getting my pics up asap.

Any word on when Epic X Tattoo and Stage 2 will come out?

Did the Epics power up at all?

Any word on when Tattoo starts?

Jim said they've revised down the number of Tattoos they'd planned to produce from 100 to 20 based on a huge cost of producing the prototypes. By the sounds of it the 20 (including one for Peter Jackson and one for Soderbergh) are going out fairly soon. He expected Stage 2 Epic production would commence within about 2 months of Tattoo results coming back in.

When asked about overall Epic and Scarlet timetables Jim said he'd be suicidal if they weren't out by the Summer.

The ASIC is up to 29 layers (from memory) - he said it was the most complex ASIC ever produced for any purpose in any industry.

Some of the other cool points for me were the ability to sync cameras and sound together using the GPS clock in Epic/Scarlet. Also EDL scripting support in the new RC-X is a HUGE deal.

The 15mbps REDray footage was astonishing. They projected using Sony's new 4K which is the size of a smartcar. They then graded live on a Pablo to the projector - ubercool. Apparently REDRay is getting a new name as it's no longer using optical discs - just solid state etc.

On the post side they mentioned it wouldn't be long until we could truncate R3D files in order to hand off VFX shots etc. with full raw capabilities without needing the entire digital negative on hand. Also, Tangent Wave support in RC-X was demoed (probably not new news) - support for the Euphonix MC Color will be out soon. Was great to see the LiftGammaGain capabilities in action. The idea of this kind of one-light grading that can then be shoved back in the camera with an SD card is huge.

The REDgunner has to be seen to be believed. Also the new larger handheld rig and custom baseplate & proprietary dovetail look great. Looks easy as pie to go from handheld to tripod with Epic/Scarlet.

another cool hint of things to come soon - Michael Cioni said that Apple's MX plug-in was very close to release.

huge.

get ready to empty your wallets - the stuff this company is doing is simply mind-blowing. that EPIC prototype with the battery grip - super slick, weighs nothing....i need mini-primes, and a pair of SCARLETs and a BOMB and...the list goes on...

all of your camera dreams are just this close to coming true...

delivery dreams will be following closely behind.

4K on their forty-foot screen with the latest Sony 4K projector technology looked way better than seeing it at NAB last year. the deep focus in the landscape cinematography was a marvel. we don't need 3D, we need true 4K delivery on enormous screens with great projectors. the depth was amazing.

having said that, Lucas and Assimilate are also doing mind-blowing 3D rendering with double Rocket cards, really impressive stuff at an incredible price point.

Thanks Dan, great info!

No probs! Here's a few pics (might be duplicating some of the stuff Robert has already put up). The lens in pic #2 is the new 17-50mm. Looks like a beast.

I just had this big old explanation ready to go, and I hit the wrong key and lost it. GRR.

Sorry about the lack of streaming- the first half was in a theater setting, and they were instructing no video or photography and I wanted to respect that.

The second half was basically a hands on expo with like 5 stations (some editing workflow/ color correction/ DI company, RED One in 3D [Nuff said], stage for two RED ONEs running the MX sensor on a candle lit stage, food table, oh ya- and the EPIC/SCARLET Petting zoo.)

Jim- Awesome. The guy knows how to put on a gig.

4k in 3d is F***ING SICK.

Really, no new information on the scarlet/epics. They had 6 or 7 there. None of the worked, but I think they could if there had been power. The guy with the fixed scarlet was a black hole of information. The other two guys were as helpful as they'd been instructed to be.

Honestly- if you've read the forums you know all that they were saying.

It was hinted to expect some more solid specifications in about a month and a half. And I also heard they end of summer is the expected time line for the 2/3 scarlet (the convo I overheard was specifically about the scarlet) for the general public, again- RED ONE owners get preference.

I'm looking forward to RED DAY Vegas at NAB. I'm hoping/thinking it'll be full of more information that deals with EPIC/SCARLET.

BTW- all the video was played back off a red ray. It was at 15 mb/s. IT LOOKED AMAZING!

You cut that in half or by 75%, you've got yourself a broadcast ready format...

Ummm..I think when epic and or scarlet come out you will be able to
buy a matte box to go with it...also apparently they are thinking of
coming out with a follow focus as well..but that is probably even
further out time wise.
