  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Choosing a width in excess of 1200 pixels is a bit of an interesting choice to me. I can only assume their analytics show that only a few users are viewing the site at less than 1280 pixels wide. Which, honestly, would make sense for a lot of people in the industry wandering about the internet at 1920x1080 or higher.

Well, my screen is 2560x1600 but I don't have the browser full screen. I'm sure others are the same... I like to browse and keep an eye on other things too (msn etc), one of the reason of having a large screen in the first place.

Oh sure, I don't usually browse full screen, either. But window width or resolution isn't usually reported - it's just screen size.

One of the reasons a lot of sites stay under ~1000px.

Please note that Account History and Open Orders only shows orders from last 12 months. If you need detail beyond that, you would need to contact your BOMB SQUAD rep.

Account balance - yes, as Jarred said, our IT team is still working behind the scenes pushing data from our old backend to the new. Team has been up since Thursday morning so running on Red Bull fumes....

Product Shots

Product Shots

Ok. lots of work done on the red.com 3.0

... some first feedback regarding the store - product images ...

I like the "organic" images in the old store better then the "fake" mirror product shots.
i think they confuse the eye and take attention to the effect rather then displaying the product in all is natural beauty.

The "old" product shots had the effect of being more real to me (although i recall the shadows photoshopped) - so, i wanted to HAVE them.

I would suggest to photograph all products with an EPIC(TM) and have state of the art lighting and setup.
Real product shots with shadow and perspective, would be my suggested direction.

If i may, I would suggest to follow the OAKLEY tradition, regarding the talent and add to the spirt of the site.

Just a detail, that would, in my humble opinion, add to the "professional" positioning, credibility and authentic feel.

Feedback Store - pricing

Feedback Store - pricing

I would think, being in the store as a customer, its about the products and specs, probably availability information or delivery time, too.

At the current state of the product pages, the price is the one thing standing out.

From a "Professional" Positioning view, i would suggest the price to be secondary information,

The price does not deserve the spotlight and take away the attention from the product.

I guess, the red detail should come from the product shot and tickle my eye to look further at it - not from the "price warning" ...

Well I'm biased in this regard but you can get better shots out of CG than product photography. CG doesn't have to be mirrored. In fact most of the work I do uses semi-glossy reflections. The advantage being that all product photography tends to be touched up anyway. There are loads of completely impossible reflections and lighting in most top end product photography that's a combination of many shots and setups stitched together in photoshop. In CG you do the same thing but you have even more methods for masking and touching up in 2D.

I just finished lighting an Xbox 360 Slim for Microsoft and it was actually one of the rare times that the product itself was almost completely glossy.

Pete and Repeat were on a boat...

Pete and Repeat were on a boat...

The 'Home' page has:

Products/Shot on Red/Learn/Store/Home/Accounts/Support/Cart
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. Epic (Product)/2. Shot on Red/Learn (with the pros)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Shot on Red/Learn/Shop (Store)

With respect, I'd call that a 'Retarded Echo,' or rather: repetition without good cause. It takes less effort for both those visiting and the programmers coding to list everything once, making the navigation intuitively simple and memorable. Aesthetically it's nice. Navigation-wise, it isn't...but I epic-fail for a living, so my views are notoriously not consumable by the masses.

The 'Store' section also repeats the 'Products' as well, in a sense, and therefore could be merged.

The 'Shot on Red' and 'Learn' and 'Support' sections are also in some sense 'Product' relevant, though perhaps these sections warrant their separation due to sharing sensors, features, manuals, builds, plug-ins and so forth, making them not easily dividable within 'Products' themselves.

'Accounts' and 'Cart' are in the same arena, so they could be adjacent.

To repeat, I'd reduce redundancy of sections and merge sections when appropriate. Best-

Was hoping that an update or surprise purchase option for ssd module would show...

Ditto on that. I have some lengthier seminar-type events to shoot
where the SSD module would be very, very helpful.

If you were zero a $0 balance on your Accounts account balance, please sign out of your account and sign back in. We just pushed last account sync so everyone should be all set. If you think your balance is incorrect still, please contact your BOMB SQUAD rep so they can compare your RED order system account statement with your online account balance.

Remember two things, account balance reflects your balance taking into all INVOICED items. Open orders do not affect your balance. Two, your account balance may not reflect recent/pending payment/credit postings to your account. It does take a little while to post.

Again, if you have other RED.com 3.0 questions or concerns directly related to your account, please contact your BOMB SQUAD rep or me at brent - at - red - dot - com.

Last but not least, this is just our initial launch. We already have a lot of new stuff in queue. And just like with our software and firmware, we do listen to feedback. We cannot cater the site to each and every user's preferences - but if we agree with your feedback, you bet we will try to do it.

Hehe, I had a hearth attack too, I just sent in 40k and there was already some there and sow "0" Balance, what!!

Then I just remembered that the wire is taking 3 day to hit the account any ways hehe, and possibly the rest of the money in the account was already gone to pay for the ordered GOODIES??

Will try again on monday ;)

But really like it much better in the overall design and Information found on the site now, room to make it better, always, but works for me, and way better then the very static web site of before.

Ketch, I also accept barter payments to your account in the form of lasagna and tiramisu ;)

The RedRay section is interesting, especially the part about home theatre delivery. Looking forward to Scarlet and Red Ray for projection playback.
