Calliope Hummingbirds (the smallest of the hummers in North America) - Monstro 8K shot at 60fps (part of my 'back yard' productions during the slowdown/lock down...)

Yosemite Nat'l Park (this years drought...Feb and no snow and the waterfalls were low flow) - Helium 8K

time for a little update on MammothHD Library and a few things I've been working on. Overall - as with the whole industry worldwide - it's been SLOW!. The majority of projects have been delayed, postponed and out-right cancelled as budgets, markets, travel work thru the COVID pandemic. Good to see a few projects and productions starting up again in very controlled environments. We've been adding new material as it is submitted and letting our client base know via our News/Notes newsletter series - and I've been shooting a bit locally and in the studio.. along with opening a Print-Based gallery and store for my stills work in photos, abstracts and illustrations..

so here a bit of my summer shooting... all motion is shot on Monstro 8K (with a few slomo - drops in res to get the speed on primary the birds in flight) my still works which covers almost 50 years ranges from film 35mm to 8x10 and digital cameras and/or graphics apps from PS and other photo editing apps to 3D modeling...

8K VV - Studio (studies of details and structures of soap bubbles) - fun to shoot but can be messy with all the soap and mixtures. All macro - 105mm and 210mm

On the Stills side - here's a few examples of pics and re-worked images from the archive (the Hawk is a frame from RED Dragon-8K VistaVision re-worked)

my yard buddy the Red Fox kit (i've been spending weeks slowly getting trust and acceptance from the kits so I can now work very close and for longer periods of time)

and like a lot of you - had to run out to see if I could get a reasonable pic of the NEOWISE Comet last month...

and to keep things interesting - been having Bears on the deck in the evening.... (a trail-cam frame - night vision) - this guys pretty big!

So - have more in the edit suite to work thru and a long shoot list I'm slowing moving thru (although it keeps getting added to) - so another update coming when there's a few interesting things to add.

Hope everyone is seeing a small up-tic in their sector of the business... seeing and hearing of productions and projects slowly getting back to work! Hopefully we'll see a wider range of work gearing up and building speed the next couple of months.

The MHD Library has been adding new material and I've been shooting a few 'local' subjects for the galleries.

Preying Mantis (8K Monstro - Sigma 105mm Macro with a 2x extender) - this one was crawling aroundd the yard so recruited him for a few shots in the studio before releasing back into the yard...

Paper Wasps at the birdbath (Monstro 8K - Laowa 24mm Macro Probe) - fruit from the yard.

down the road - The National Bison Range, Western Montana
Pronghorn (Monstro 8K - Sigma 150-600mm)

and grabbed some stills during the Bison Rut a few weeks back... (Nikon Z6 - Sigma 150-500mm)

along with re-purposing footage - pulling frames from the archive for my Print Gallery/Store
Harris Hawk in flight (Epic 5K - Nikon 70-200mm)

so - always working on the footage and new images... and expanding the markets

A quick 'SNEAK PEEK' !

Adding a new gallery on Australian Giant Cuttlefish (mating behaviors) - in 5K and 4K slo-mo (Scarlet-W w/H2O-OLPF - shot by Peter Lightowler) There are times when we get new submissions in that you're just 'WOW'd" - this is one of those....

Happy New Year (we all need it)

Although this last year has been a bit slow on new material - we have added some really great 8K footage. Here's a few frame from a little 8K Monstro Session I shot on 12/31/20 to end my filming for the year. Snowy Owls - shot on Monstro 48fps/170°shutter/250ISO on a Sigma 150-600.

the white on white with all the feather detail really shows off the 8K and DR (these are only 720 pixels jogs) - the footage catches the water droplets of the melting snow and the steaming breath in the cool winter temps - Shot in western Montana (this is a captive/rescue bird that now serves as an ambassador for the rescue facility)

add 24 clips covering about 10 minutes of final footage and will out film more soon. We also have lots more other footage in the edit suite including song birds of Europe, western landscapes, etc.

Hope your new year is fantastic, and that we all get back to seeing our projects moving forward in a more normal mode.

To start here's a set of Wildcats - filmed last week in Montana (all captive animals) so all winter locations-> Mountain Lion (Cougar/Puma/Panther) a 5 month old juvenile, Canada Lynx and Bobcats. All shot on Monstro in 8K-Vista Vision at 60fps.

Thanks Russ - this set is all "In-Captivity' at a wildlife filming ranch in Western Montana. We had the animals and the trainers/handlers in large filming enclosures - so my back was covered - still they are wild and don't take direction... late winter is the breeding season for these species - so for the most part were very distracted for most of the sessions. Really enjoyed the experience.
