So, here's something strange:

I received my Raven brain and accessories (except the touch screen) a few weeks ago, and I was able to procure a force preset for Wifi so that I would be able to use Fool Control to operate the camera in some capacity while I wait for delivery of the touch screen. When I connect the camera to Fool Control, everything appears to be working fine with, except both on my brain and on the app (I've already spoken with Mikael and I'm 100% sure it's not an app issue) it won't record. My question is this: upon initially booting up your new brain is there something that must be done (i.e accept terms of something) that would be prohibiting me from using this function of the camera? I can manipulate my lens, fans, and everything else but record. I've reformatted my SSD card a few times and that doesn't work.

Any suggestions welcome!

I am pretty sure I read in another thread something about an initial screen where you need to accept terms or something like that in order to begin shooting.

Andrew,
Sounds strange, did you connected some screen to SDI or HDMI?
How did you connected foolcontrol without screen? is possible?

Yes, I've heard that there is a condition of terms that you must agree to before using the camera. Maybe that can only be accessed when you attach the touch monitor. Maybe Phil Holland can speak on this for clarification.

Others are correct, there is a Software License Agreement that you need to accept before the camera will allow recording. If you attach any HDMI or SDI monitor you should be able to use Foolcontrol to setup the camera so the menus appear on the monitor and also to navigate the menus to accept the SLA. Of course, you can also do this with the Sidekick and any external monitor.

Hello Trent, I just tried to reproduce the situation here.. altho everything could work like you describe in fact it does not because the agreement pops up a notification command over RCP and that notification has no buttons to even accept it.... so unless I code something around this particular notification it seems it will not work as we cannot access the foolcontrol KEYS page while a notification is shown...

Now this re-inforce the need to have a touch screen or sidekick /side handle as a primary way to control the camera...

We have a work-around pending that will allow this notification to be dismissed by the user. That way they can continue and use the keys page to control the HDMI/HDSDI.

:-)

Also, our Switchblade/Sidekick work around this by only showing notifications in "local" mode. In "remote" mode the notifications are hidden and the user it allowed to use the keys to control their camera. You could do something similar in Foolcontrol, but I'm not sure this use case justifies that level of effort on your part. At the end of the day, you really should have a hard-wired way to setup your camera (atleast once).

Yup I agree a physical way to operate the camera is a must have... It is just that with the new cameras and temporary accessory shortage some users can't wait to start playing :-)
Guess I could work around it and display a close box on that notification...

And bring them directly to the remote key page.

Appreciate the diligence in responses from everyone - thanks for the side email Mikael. : )

Josiah - thanks, man. But, nope. I'm in PA.

Unless a workaround is enabled in the interim, I'll wait for the touch screen to ship. I was indeed just trying to find anyway to play as soon as possible.

Where in PA? I have a 9" touch and a LEMO adapter A for my Raven when it arrives.

Ive only just put my pre order in for a raven and its my first go at RED. Its so refreshing to see guys willing to help each out, even offer up their monitors to get another user up and running. You dont find community like that with other cameras. Glad i chose RED

Agreed, and it's been that way from the beginning. Not quite on a par with giving a kidney to a stranger, but in the same category in a minor way.
