Does anyone know if the latest beta build allows you to trigger a samurai by hitting the run button without media in the camera!? Cheers
pete

Not tested with the samurai but latest beta build does include the external record mode that allows HD-SDI REC trigger when selected and the camera has no SSD media... HTH

Spot on, thanks Mikael. Thought I'd seen it in the beta menu and advised a colleague about it but wanted to double check.

Just tested it with Scarlet 3.2.16 and Samurai 3.0 Firmware. SDI at 1080 25p. Start trigger worked. Stop trigger didn't.

Would this be a Samurai-based issue or a RED-based issue? Also can anyone else confirm whether this happens often or rarely?
Just checked again, if I also record on SSD it works (starts and stops), but in ext only mode recording on Samurai doesn't stop and I have to shut down the scarlet by pressing the power button 5 secs - good old pc style - because it won't come out of recording mode.

Had this same prob with new build on my PIX240 as well - but was intermittent so not sure it is how I have set up the camera, or.....??
No issues with prior v3.2.8

Hmm... So it could be more of a RED firmware thing than a Samurai or Pix thing... Tobias, did you try with 3.2.8 or just .16?

In Beta 3.3.3. start/stop works, but record without ssd is not available anymore.
Just found this: HD-SDI 720 60p out at 2K 60fps is only 30p on the samurai (doubles the frames) but at 3K 48 it's 48p in a 60p signal (doubles every 4th frame, so not really usable for slowmotion)

True....just tested it for myself.... :(

This was a bug with 3.2.16, it is fixed in 3.2.19 and in 3.3

Excellent.

Limitation of SDI standard and Disk record speeds.

Not so excellent; does that mean the Samurai automatically defaults to 30p x2 (or 48 in 60i) if the HDD/SSD can't keep up, or it's always going to be limited that way because of HD-SDI? I was under the impression that 60p/2k should be possible across SDI... Hell, I was under the impression that 3G-SDI could do 4k (ala Sony FS700, which will be using 3G-SDI for it's 4k/RAW recording), but apparently it's not.

EDIT: This is a HD-SDI specs limitation as it only supports 1080/60i max (hence double 30fps and 60i wrapped 48fps), regardless of the off board recorder (or camera) used. BOOO hisss...

Nope, neither the PIX.

Yes you're abolutely right, I had more time to play with it today. like someone else already noticed, you can externally record clean full sensor fov 24/25/30p now if you enable "look around". That's a big one to cross off my wishlist!
