  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raven Screen Tear - What do I do???

Yep 4.7 inch. RED just said it's a hardware problem and I have to send it in for evaluation :( only used it once lol - yeah it makes you black shade after the update.
hardware? the monitor or the whole camera?

That's all the RED guy said on email - "I have received word back from our Engineering team on the results of your log file. Unfortunately they are seeing possible hardware errors present in the log file, and are recommending having the camera sent in for further evaluation by our Technicians at this time.

Michael, sorry to hear this... but I'm sure they will have it sorted out soon. Their support has been top notch to me!

Yeah thanks, I'm sure it's all good. I went back to the factory setting black shade map file and the issue goes away. Is it bad to use the older version black shade? What happens to the image? I know it's not ideal - but the footage looks A ok to me. I'll still take it in just wanna shoot in the meantime.

is it the 4.7 inch?
let us know what happens, i havent tried to upgrade yet. i didnt know youd have to recalibrate black shading when you upgrade, hmmmm.

Jordan, my first firmware upgrade on my RAVEN and CF WEAPON required me to make a black shade recalibration. Have since upgraded the CF WEAPON to the new build and did not get the notification to do a new black shade. The recent firmware upgrade on the RAVEN is my only one so far.

I wouldn't change your mind - get the Raven, you won't regret it. These things happen so we'll see what they say. I am dropping it back tomorrow to the RED store so it should take a few days to evaluate/repair if needed. These are complicated machines so things from to time may have glitches or bugs...I'll keep everyone updated once I get a verdict and solution.

Hi Michael. Any news about your issue? It´s a shame. Your footage is the firts that i saw of the Raven and was the key to make the decision to make my order.

Good luck!

So I returned my Raven last week and the repair technicians said it was best if they just replace the whole brain. So they did! Nice and easy and quick. All within a week. Great support. Not sure what the issue was but I could ask for a report if needed. But eh, I have my (new) camera back.

Wow! They replaced the whole camera. Yeah that must have been something strange and unusual with the hardware. Glad they were able to take care of you so quickly and get you rolling again. RED is amazing that way. And yeah, a full report would be interesting.

Damn that sucks. Know how ya feel man. Did you re-install the new firmware and do a black shade? My issue seemed to stem from the upgrade. But they may loan you one if needed.

Yeah, pretty much did the same thing as you. I am currently using the factory black shade settings now to rid of the weird pixeling. I pretty much need the camera the day after tomorrow so I'll work with these settings for now. When I get back I'm going to have to hit up RED to get this fixed.

Not being able to blackshade properly is no bueno.

yeah that's what I did. Just take it back after your shoot and they'll look at it.

I've had my Raven for almost a month but due to our workload last night was the first night I had a chance to fire it up. I am having the same issue. Filed a support ticket with this explanation:

When I initially powered up my new raven camera there was an on screen message that said "Sensor Calibration Recommended - The current sensor calibration is out of date. Please black shade the camera". I performed a black shade and the screen comes up with artifacts on the right side of the screen. If I set the sensor calibration to factory the artifacts are gone but I get the same sensor calibration recommended message every time the camera starts up.
