I just updated my Raven to the new Firmware 6.3.17, then it asked me for a black shade calibration, so I did an auto calibration, it took about 20-30 mins AND then this happened!?

Wtf

Can I take it to RED Hollywood tomorrow and get them to look? I saved the log file too. So bummed, only used it twice so far...

Or should I go back to the factory calibration and re-do it? Cause it seemed to tear after I calibrated it.

Fascinating artifact on the screen.

I'd try a couple things before heading down to RSH.

Have you tried running the Sensor Calibration again after this? I'd give that a try.

Might be worth reinstalling the firmware if that doesn't fly.

Ok I'll give it a go now. Thanks, I hope that works. Let you know.

Make sure when you turn the camera on it's up to Calibration Temperature, "green lights".

And make sure you've got the lens cap on secure. I sometimes put my hat in front of it or small rag just in case there are ghosts in the room.

great meeting you today Phil as always great info

Ok I changed the calibration to the previous file (that was done a week before I got it, in the factory) and the tear went away. When I re-boot it now says the "calibration is out of date" and I need to update. Shall I re-try the new calibration file (today's date on it) or just re-do firmware again?

yes the green lights are both green too

That was a nice surprise today at the RSH Store Marcel. Pleasure meeting you as well.

Yes, you should try a new Sensor Calibration pass first.

One thing you should do is file a report ticket and put in a link to this thread. Send RED your log file. One way to really help the whole community is sharing this data with RED so that they can work the problem and improve the product.

But in the meantime you can do as Phil suggested and make sure the camera is capped and not in any direct light. Run the calibration again as it seems there might be an anomaly with the one you made. Also try to manually calibrate only one shutter angle to see if that removes the problem.

Thanks. I just re-down loaded the firmware, tried all that again and also re-calibrated auto and manual - and it's still there. :( I submitted a red ticket, do they allow people to drop in to the RSH so I can show them? Just want it fixed asap

The other option is to roll back your firmware and use the "old" calibration or see if the problem persists on the older firmware. That might help understand if is a hardware or software thing.

Is it on the r3d's or just the screen?

David

Yes I may go back to old firmware. Yes when I record it's on the r3d file too. When I change to the old calibration file, it goes away. So it's the new firmware that did it

So perhaps stick with what is working until this is sorted. Good job in filing the ticket, I know the RED team appreciates that and ultimately it helps everyone.

David

Yeah I just updated the camera with the 6.2.60 firmware and it works fine. Should I stay with that? I see they released two firmwares on the same day?

RED is now keeping two rolling release builds to help support productions that are already in motion by the time a new build shows up.

Please do however submit a ticket to RED and tell them what you experienced on that firmware.

Yep thanks guys. yes, I submitted a ticket, hopefully it's an easy fix. Was scared there or a min.

Good Find I just did my firmware update to 6.3.17 successfully I also perform the sensor calibration with the original RED cap and dark room in auto setting I can safely say thumbs up on my in I was crossing fingers.

Same here but I am using a DSMC 7 inch monitor instead of a new style.

I even loaded the firmware twice and also loaded the 6.2.60 firmware too - same issue. Only when I change back to factory black shade map, it then goes away. Talking with RED support now.

is it the 4.7 inch?
let us know what happens, i havent tried to upgrade yet. i didnt know youd have to recalibrate black shading when you upgrade, hmmmm.

Yep 4.7 inch. RED just said it's a hardware problem and I have to send it in for evaluation :( only used it once lol - yeah it makes you black shade after the update.
