  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raven.... Everything Just Changed.

From a business perspective did they not get as many Pre-Orders as intended?

Still trying to figure out why they'd do this bump from 4K to 4.5k....

Actually, got a little more than we forecasted, so, nope.

Simple. Because we figured out we can. So we did.

.

A) to retire criticism that the Ursa 4.6K may be the better cam for its price point
B) because every bit of downsampling and re-frame capability makes RED footage better
C) because Jim and Jarred get a lot of pure enjoyment out of inventing shit and raising the bar, especially their own bar
D) to make RAVEN a better B cam match for all of their other cameras in the line-up
E) all of the above

All in.
thank you thank you thank you, nice work.

im not asking for other new specs, just a preorder on that new i/o module v-mount!

Awesome. BTW, any info on when the new school EVF will be available in quantity? When I have to manage my own focus, the EVF is most helpful.

Ill never understand this mentality.

Anyways, from a new customer with a deposit placed, I appreciate your hard work and your willingness to edge more out of RAVEN, I think the majority of us couldn't be happier with what you're giving us.

Cheers.

What's the point of making it wider when the height stays the same? Not really 4.5k... technically yes, but useless 4.5k. You can't downsample it to UHD or 4K.

Let me add my "thank you Phil" to the chorus.

I'm working on some very specific AOV calculations and most of the lenses I'm researching use 24x36mm, FF35, as the reference. Since the 8K Dragon is our target imager I'm wondering how to determine the AOV on a 20x40mm target? Any notes, or just a link to a formula would be most helpful. I certainly wouldn't expect you to put any real time into helping me, unless I wrote you a check, but it seems likely you have reason to investigate such parameters anyway.

4.5K WS for 2.40 ratio. More DOF. Smaller crop factor. More room to stabilize or reframe.
And that's what the Red One MX was about too.

+1. "Give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile."

Hardware and software can only be tweaked so much. Looking forward to Feb.

I've done the work for you in terms of image circle, which is what matters:

For 8K I'm expecting damn near every FF35 lens to cover 8K HD. 8K FF, 2:1, and WS are where things might get interesting, but I think we'll be in a good spot. That's if nothing changes on the sensor size front. Things seem to be going nuts around here :)

You're not allowed to voice your opinion anymore? I don't see your point if it's done in a respectful way. Red is not alone in camera world anymore.
