RACK FOCUS

I find it unbelievable. It's really great for small teams.
Thank you very much to you and your team

I think it would be really cool to also have a finger flip focus option. So there is a line on the LCD. At one end it close focus, the other end is infinity. Then as you track your finger along the line it changes focus. I'm sure that's a lot of code to make that work, but something to add on after cameras are shipping. I'll settle for a REDMOTE Pro though! :) So looking forward to Epic. Big debate now though, do I buy PL mount lenses or try and use Canon ones on RED ONE? Who has a mount that won't violate warranty?

Given that the sample photo you're giving us is of a half-dressed girl in a prison cell...

Am I the only one who wants a better look at this "rack"...?

Just saying!

Awesome. Very exciting for small units.

Not asking, just rhetorical... But can some variation of face detection be used to enable the focus zone to be locked to a shape, so that if the "shape" finds itself in a different part of the frame from take to take, the focus can adapt? I notice a fair degree of hunting when you were setting the focus points and clearly when you hit the programmed button it just goes to the predetermined points. Assuming this kind of thing will improve over time? Nikon and Canon et al have had some years to get their algorithms right.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Great news, will make life easier. And it feels as if we are only at the beginning of the possibilities with a data controlled lens and camera system.

Excellent - bring it on!

In my opinion AF and focus racking are features that many styles and genres of production will really learn to appreciate. If you need/want them, they will be available. If your style or genres of production don't call for them, fine, don't use them.

Since it will be first to be done, I'll be using the Canon mount extensively with the kit of Canon L series lenses I already own. When its available I'll be using the Nikon mount with the kit of top-level Nikon lenses I also own. Then when the Red electronic mount and lenses are available I'll probably use them much more than my Canon and Nikon setups - beefier motors, matched optics, etc.

It will be incredibly useful to have the option to quickly change mounts, select the lenses I want for each shot sequence, then go get the shots - with features like AF and focus racking available when needed or wanted. Very cool indeed...:thumbup1:

... Will there be a dumb mount in the interim?
Certainly wisihng for a dumb mount at least, or hopefully one with an average IQ, 'cause dumbass me started buying Nikon glass about 6 months ago in anticipation of having a full-featured Nikon mount by the time Epic X ships. Of course, that still could be the case.

I can see this being very useful for close-up product shoots, macro stuff - you'll be able to get a level of precision that's difficult manually.

I'm hoping there's an "easy-ease" option to give it a more organic look as well. I never used the "shot transition" function on the Sony EX-1 because it was linear and would stop on a dime rather than ease into the shot like a good camera operator would.

I think there is a lot of anticipation for the canon mount. While this rack focus is awesome I think many of us would love to see a similar short shot of the redmotepro in action doing the same shot with an operator.

We are all being quite quiet about the redmote pro but I think many of us harbor a belief that it could lead to a serious shift in many areas of production.

Looking forward to what comes in the next year.

This is cool, but does anyone have a list of Canon glass that doesn't breathe - almost all of mine does .

You realise that's a mannequin, right?
