RACK FOCUS

Macho jocks and skater punks, by my observation, shoot mostly with 7Ds or whatever is cheapest, if they're interested in the arts at all. Those who don't are a tiny group not numerous enough to support a high-end camera brand.

Rob. comon, man. This isn't a forum for elitists. I've been a macho jock, have a braided beard, sing in a metal band, AND consider myself a very serious cinematographer, and fully plan to buy an Epic-M as soon as Jarred says my name is up. There are no rules...just those that kick ass, and those that don't.

I am a macho heavy metal punk and I own 6 reds and an Alexa and epic M on the way. I am a director, cinematographer, editor and I like to film punk music videos of skater punks too. I never complain when shooting beautiful women and don't care what my clients film with my cameras as long as they pay the bill and respect the gear. Not all cinematography is "the arts". Seems ignorant and piss weak to be all high and mighty about womens rights and in the same rant reduce jocks and skaters to insignificant amateurs.

Focus pulling judgement

Focus pulling judgement

An AC doesn't just pull focus - they make judgement calls. An AC, if skilled, is much more than just a focus robot. There is really no such thing as an "AC killer".
I was just looking at some shots today where I was very impressed by the focus pulling . They totally made the emotional impact of the scene. Red has given us new tools to do what could be impossible or very difficult to do.
Kudos to them.

I think it's nice when Red combine two things like this: Showing how the rack focus works (execellent, btw) and on top of that shooting it on Scarlet (fixed I presume). This is the most pleasing clip from the Scarlet camera-line so far and I really like the way it handles flesh-tones and noise levels (and everything else). To my untrained eye, it looks just as good as Epic-footage and therefore I look very much forward to the next time we get to see Scarlet in action. Bravo! As people have already suggested, it would be nice to see a shortfilm along the lines of 'Tattoo'. But until then (or the release) I will most definately watch this clip many, many times again.
