Hi all,

I've been seeing a lot of workflows committing to ProRes from RedCine or other destructive processes that do not master from the raw sources.

So here's my personal take on the current R3D Resolve workflow and how it integrates with the entire editing process (including lots of screenshots for all those new to Resolve 9):

Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations.

Thanks

Markus, how are you dealing with speed changes? Are you finding they come over okay in the Resolve 9 conform?

To my surprise, Resolve 9 handles speed changes (constant speed changes, not the ramping type) equally well using PP or FCP either EDL or XML. For obvious reasons, if you're looking for properly interpolated motion, you shouldn't be doing this kind of work in Resolve. Twixtor or Chronos are much better for that kind of thing.
Anyway, I just conformed my first feature with Resolve 9 using XML from FCP and it was a breeze. It took me less than an hour to conform and verify it's accuracy, while using multiple drives and folders. Resolve conformed everything we threw at it, including Epic and transcoded Canon, speed changes, opacity, dissolves, sizing without even one problem.
On the other hand, using either EDL or XML from PP wasn't problem free. On a 4 minute short I had edits drift between 1 all the way to 7 frames. I ended up fixing those cuts by hand.
nevertheless, I'm very impressed with the work BM had done so far with V9.
