  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

R3d trim problems

Color grading information got lost, speed changes didn't get through, they were replaced by only one frame spanned to the entire clip and Resolve replaced some clips here and there with different (wrong) clips. I repeat, I tried to do it after the grading to archive the project.

And I repeat for the third time, color grading WILL get lost, if you do trimming and consolidation AFTER finishing grading. You need to do it before grading:-)
As far as speed changes, that is strange. Resolve doesn't apply the speed change to R3Ds during the render. The speed change is applied after the roundtrip to FCPX or PP. In other words, clips with speed changes in Resolve are exactly the same as the ones without- they are all rendered at 100% speed.
Did you try to trim just one clip, that was replaced with the wrong clip? That may help the troubleshooting the problem. The only reason why I'm saying this, is I had used this consolidation process and it worked perfectly.

I don't understand. I trimmed all my clips in the timeline but I trimmed them with rcx because davinci stops after 50/60 clips or so. Anyway if I can't carry the grading for me is useless. Next time I'll do it before the grading ;)

Jake, when you trim the clips does resolve trim all? Or you trim them 20/30 at the time?

for me r3d trimming improved greatly starting with 9.1.4 - no stalls or crashes. Nikolai Waldman's "resolve Collect" app is a great archiving tool on the apple app store. it does not trim the files (except for dpx now) but moves just the files in a sequence for easy consolidating.

I just did a short using Resolve 9.1.3 with couple of hundred cuts and I had no issues with trimming the whole timeline whatsoever.
Are you using Hackintosh to run the Resolve?

Hi Jake, no I use a proper mac pro. Anyway I'm doing a feature now with resolve 10 and following the instructions about trimming r3ds, it works flawlessly. As you said it's an operation that you have to do in the beginning. I'm at the 5th reel and it's pretty much 200 clips per reel and it works great.

Yes, I have read, that users are successful doing R3D trimming with V10. I'm still on V9 for now. Good to hear, that it is working for you too:)

Thank you, I see this but when exported, the sound becomes a separate .wav file, would you know a way of exporting
a red trimmed file video + audio in one file as it comes out from the camera ?

did anyone find a way to do this? thanks.
