  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Quick Look - LG 31" DCI 4K Monitor

I thought that was a weird option. The screen is 4k but goes past 4k resolution? Up to 8k scaled? What's going on here?

Great for Dragon footage ;)

another quick question. Any chance we might see a drop in price before/after NAB for this display?

Differences between the 31MU97-B and the 31MU97?

We've already seen a price drop last month by a couple hundred dollars. I'd bet this screen costs under $999 by summer. You just have to wait... :)

What of warranties? Anyone get a warranty with this beast?

So I have an older Mac Pro (non trashcan) running the GTX780 3GB card using web drivers - anyone know if this card will be able to handle the 4K res and still run smooth with Resolve on 1080p timelines - right now with my Cinema Display I can playback 5nodes of a 1080p timeline realtime.

Thanks - this looks like an amazing monitor.

Hi jareck - If you do get the Monitor please give us your thoughts as I am interested in connecting it to a 4k decklink as well.

Picked it up at frys today. They price matched bhphoto. Some shots of stacked windows.

Anyone tried this monitor on set viewing a feed from an Epic as a director's monitor? How does it look?

My Scarlet is out maybe tomorrow I can test.

Keep in mind itll be 1080p.

Since a short while i do use the new NEC PA322UHD 4k reference monitor - expensive but great. After long tests, we configure all of our editing rooms with 4x 4k panels - 3 in a bottom row, and 1 TV Sets (55, 65 or 75" Samsungs) on top in the middle (see attached older example pic made by phone). It's possible through a Geforce 980GTX card that supports 4x 4K through 3x display port and 1x HDMI2. This means only 1 TV Set is possible. In the bottom rows the right monitor always is the reference 32" 4K screen. The left bottom monitors are consumer Acer 32" screens. And for the middle bottom main editing window i selected Philips BDM4065UC 40" 4K panels. It seems these are the only 40" 4K panels right now that do have display port, and although they are based on a TV panel, they work great! In 4K resolution, 40" is the minimal work monitor size for me. I found a company who did put a thin matte wrap on the screen that doesnt effect brightness or color, but removes the glossy mirror effect (did the same for my 5", 9" and Shogun monitors by the way).

I was looking to get the LG and use it as a grading monitor for Resolve at home. My GUI monitor is a NEC Spectraview 27"

I want to keep the NEC as the GUI monitor because I've been really pleased with the spectraview software, and how easy it is to switch back and forth between sRGB and Rec 709. I don't know if the LG's calibration software is as good.

Either case, I still need a Grading/reference Monitor at home. Has anyone looked at this following setup:

Decklink 4K Pro --> Teranex Mini - SDI to HDMI 12G --> HDMI input on LG 31mu97

I plan to use dispcalGUI with Resolve to calibrate the monitor to create a Monitor LUT.

The reason I thought about this setup was because the Decklink 4K Pro outputs 4K DCI 10bit in 444 over 12G SDI and the Teranex can convert that to HDMI while keeping the same spec. The Teranex has an HDMI 2.0 connection.

My question is, does anyone see this scenario not working?

color is nice, but they're not calibrated at all... factory settings are not great and the TV's color accuracy will drift over time... and much much faster in the beginning when the set "break in"... so not good as a ref monitor...

the question is also which HDMI pipeline u have the TV hooked up to... (?) the Teranex pipe carries the Resolve cLUT (calibration LUT) for the LG so absolutely not usable for the XBR...

can u share a calibration report of the calibrated LG using this setup ?

Thanks.

Mike,
It is true, but I guarantee that this Sony compared to models before be very much better, I changed some parameters but everything works well.
Obviously better to have a calibration. I notice only a slight yellow in high light.
I'm using the boxes 3d lut 4k trial by a Swiss company that works for the broadcast.
then the ducts are separated both for Lg both for Sony.

And yep Sdi to Hdmi for Sony and same for Lg... :(
