  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Questions..?

Any 2k plans for the 9inch monitor
 
Any idea what's happening with all those R1MXs that got swapped in the Epic Stage exchanges? Are there going to be discounted battle-tested ones or am I just opening a can of worms here?

I just get visions of huge stockpile just sitting in a storage room at RED collecting dust.
 
First:
Congratulations on the amazing progress and exciting new product releases!

Second, questions:
Is i/interface coming to Epic and Scarlet?
Will the new batch of Pro Primes feature a metadata interface?
Can RedCode become GPU accelerated in the next months?
 
This is an awesome thread, Jarred. Thanks for doing it. Funny, but yesterday a group of 2 or 3 of us drilled Jarred at the booth with almost every one of these questions. He answered all of them, albeit with a few more f-bombs dropped in. Ha ha.

You guys should also know at least 3 times when questions were asked, Jarred replied with a laugh "We would never do that to you guys." Seriously, technology/video industry consumers are so incredibly cynical from their past experiences with other companies that it's hard for them to actually understand how cool RED is...and what they're trying to do. It's fun to watch.

Oh, my question: Any chance RCX will get secondaries at any point? That would be HUGE!

Question / sugeston.

If no still mode. Could you not let us address the side handle red button to a "marker" it would be great even for motion. just push that button while recording and the current recorded frame gets a tag. thats' possible to jump to in red cine x pro then the still photo guys that want to snap frames can do that all they want while the camera is in record mode. For motion I would like to do the same for the good takes. Even give the director the red mote so he can trough in tag marks for good moments in the takes...
 
Speaking of RCXp, any chance it'll become (massively) multi-threaded at some point? Even if it's just in the batch-rendering department (rather than having to do it command-line style.) Or possibly GPU-acceleration as an interim solution for those that don't quite need an RR?

Not in the near future. I am sure there will be one someday.... but not anytime soon. The RedRocket still is killing it.. and if you want faster just put 2 into your system :)

RCP-X is one of the products we make that Personally Jim and I are most proud of. What our RC-X team has accomplished is incredible.. There is alot of stuff coming.. alot of really cool stuff.

I promise you almost every request for RC-X stuff in this thread has already been on their list. That doesn't mean it will ever get released.. but they are thinking about it. all of it.

Random question. Can you set the power/record button to Only be power? Last time I tried couldn't get it to work.

I keep hearing about these sensor NDs and in the button assigning menus you can choose ND related commands. How will these NDs work?

Also I'm so psyched about how you guys operate :D growing up in a society based on "disposable" products I can't tell you how highly I regard upgradability and craftsmen ship. Thank You
 
Any plans on upgrading the frame rate past 300 any time on the EPIC? I want 1000fps, but I don't want to spend as much as vision research want me to spend on the phantom camera line, with their 3.0MP cameras.....

+1 on this. Would be great for 80% of jobs/markets that don't require varispeed. If they can support the highest resolution of Red MX/Scarlet/Epic/Maybe Dragon, but only up to say 30fps max (although more would of course be awesome), and be much more affordable, that would help everyone on tight budgets, and even the big productions who don't need varispeed. It would also use up SSDs which didn't make the grade for varispeed. We could then just buy/hire full speed media when varispeed is required.

No doubt! Come to think of it though, it doesn't need to be in camera, but in RCX-Pro. I wonder how useful that data will be to motion tracking. "You want to comp this in where, here? Bang! It's done!""I know it's a hand held shot, but seriously, it's done."
