  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim, et al - Keeping it brief... based on what you know from the the activity within RED, can we be confident that Apple will continue to "play well" (very well!) with RED going forward? Thnx.

Any details on what modules will be released with the 2/3" package?

All the same modules will be available as with EPIC. Both cameras use the same interface and modules... which is why this system is so nice.

I know i'm probably late with my question ;-)

...but what's your stance on 3rd party modules? Will you release a "module SDK", or will you rather keep it proprietary?

There was word of some scarlet updates a month or so ago, but the date came and wend. What was that going to be about?

Old info that has been superseded by tonight's info.

Thanks Stu! Follow up question - can we sync two RED Rockets for the same purpose? I have noticed a lot of "unused" HW connections on the card that could potentially facilitate this - especially given the pedigree... :sifone:

Stereo syncing of rockets outputs isn't possible on the current rocket boards but you can play back stereo from two rockets through a GPU like you currently can in scratch.

We'll open up after we get the system dialed in and out there...

We sure hope so... :-)

Thanks for the answer. I just meant the package deal offered with the 2/3" fixed, What modules will be included in the kit? And also, will that package be available for the non-fixed version? Thanks.

b) Encoding is trivial, just drag and drop the finished 4K image files (our magic pixies do all the work)

Is encoding for RED RAY entirely software-based, possibly GPU accelerated? Or can the RED-RAY Pro units, or even the RED ROCKET, offer hardware assist?

Is the Fixed 2/3" Scarlet still likely to be the first one out of the box? (i.e. before interchangeable and the S35).

Does Red have any distant future plans to pursue super high-speed frame rates like those approaching what the Phantom or Weisscam are now capable of?

I think EPIC gives you 2K at 250fps. Anything more than that needs a specialty camera... for now.

To Red Team,

With more and more feature films being made in India than any other country, We still not been considered in par with Hollywood for providing initial test cameras for production as well as training programs conducted in India?

When we produce more feature films in Red, why not we being considered at-least next to hollywood in Red future calendar?

We need Service centre in India?

We need Red-education program in India?

No offense meant. Last december we requested Red One Mysterium-X sensor upgrade for a feature film shot entirely in Night. We have been not considered, where as at the same time a feature film in Hollywood was provided the sensor. Red One's biggest market will be India and expect more considerations in near future for India especially.

Apart form this I wish Red team the success you achieved, not a big players like Arri still to achieve. That may change with release of ALEXA. But Epic may turn the table with DSMC approach.

Thanks for support for indie community you have done so far by keeping the price @ best comparing all digital cinema professional cameras.

Sorry I know you guys are slammed - but any chance on getting a hint at scheduling for Scarlet S35 and Scarlet FF35? (see my original question here)

You've advised that "Those that make money with their cameras will buy EPIC" - that isn't entirely accurate. There are shooters who will purchase the Scarlet S35/FF35 as their personal equipment, and for production rent EPIC for the additional benefits. This idea has been bandied around for quite a few I know. I'd not buy the Scarlet if it couldn't make me money.
