  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Question for post production color grading professionals.

i have a BMD hyperdeck shuttle on my desktop, press the red button on it, hit play on my timeline... simple, afterwards i cut it to length in QtPro, and add timecode in Qtchange

Lightyears faster than rendering a 90 min movie to Prorez

d

if i was going to do a low cost finishing/gradeing suite on Windoze my shopping list might look like;
z820/sas drives/K5000/BMD I/O/full Tangent/Wacom/LTO
Lightworks
Resolve
Mamba
FSI 24'
Lightspace

you'll have change back from 25K....
-if you don't NEED blazing rt performance from Mamba then you can save a ton and change out the K5000 for much less expensive GPU's
- if you don't need excelent support then change out the z820 for a whitebox

or maybe if you don't need 4K soon;
z820/sas drives/Q4000/AjA I/O/MC_Color/Wacom/LTO
media composer
Baselight editions
Digital Fusion

then no round tripping, one timeline to rule all.. good luck with that XML conform tho...

any pro level free software you can think of please?
"Pro Level" and "free" generally do not go together. As the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for," and this is never more true than with post software.

Having said that, Resolve Lite can be a very useful program. But be warned that you need very hefty processing, storage, and monitoring, none of which is cheap or free. And there is a steep learning curve and a measure of skill you need in order to use the program (like anything else).

Look at it from a glass-half-full standpoint: 8 years ago, Resolve was $700,000. Now, you could essentially build a better system for $70,000 (including storage). A modest system capable of doing totally broadcast-quality work would be $20,000.

Hi Marc,
I was referring to Jake's suggestions that there are free softwares for converting video to pro res on windos pc platform because I asked for cinemartin. Can you recommend any good converter please?

ffmpeg.
ffmbc.

Or you can answer your own question by typing in "Prores conversion Windows" on Google, like I (or Jake) would do....

Hi Most thanks for suggestions I'll try ffmpeg and ffmbc. If we all go on Google then who would come to reduser net :-). lets keep red user alive :-). I am not sure about other but I come to this site so that I can get info from experienced people like yourself and its more assuring to get answers here :-)

I downloaded both ffmpeg and ffmbc but both don't seems to be getting installed properly. After extracting .exe file when I click it, it sort of stops after 1 sec ??

If you want stuff for free, you sometimes have to put a bit of effort into it. Free utilities don't always come wrapped up in Apple level GUI's. Sometimes you have to look at the documentation, do some work, and figure it out. I don't want to sound harsh, but neither I nor others are here to tell you how to do everything you might need to do step by step. You need to figure it out. I pointed you to resources that can do what you asked. The rest is up to you.

M.Most thanks for the fantastic advice. I never thought about it. I'll try to follow your advice next time but this time let someone help me how to work around this issue. I asked suggestion for paid version of cinemartin and someone here suggested to go for free version, decided to go for free and I couldn't work it out and asked for further help and further help is pointing back to paid version :-)

Silly question but how does one trim r3d files? :-/

Thanks Björn...

PCG

You deliver a XML and r3d trimmed files. Today that should work for any "professional" post house.
