Good day , just got a call from my friend , that "things" and "he read about it" that Dragon sensor will not be covered with Ultra Primes and Master Primes .

Looks like lot of people things that 6K is to big and lenses will not cover it .Because it is like a funny news for Alexa Users :)))

Can some body answer this question ? better with a grab still :)

Thanks .

Worth noting that due to a finer photosite pitch on the Dragon vs the MX when you window down from 6K to 5K on the Dragon, its a slightly smaller image circle than the MX at 5K. Point being, you should be able to get deeper into the wide end on several popular zooms, as well as some wide primes, that vignette on MX at 5K.

I love large format photography. That said, one of the reasons that S35 is such a popular format is that it offers a compelling matrix of size, weight, DOF control, MTF, speed, etc for motion applications. Bottom line, its a hell of a lot more practical to pull focus WFO in S35 vs FF35.

Looking forward to using all that 6K real estate for some situations, but am even more stoked to shoot vignette free 5K on Dragon using pretty much every lens on my truck with fewer focus buzzes. YMMV.

Thanks Blair for good answer . At this moment , my Optiomo 24-290mm on Epic 5K is 42-290mm :) and my Optiomos DPs have a Vignette .
But my Ultra Primes , and Master primes are ok .

As i undertand from your answer , i will have wide lens problem only in 6K ? will it be Vignette or i will get dark lens inside area in frame ?

Phil.. I think it was a couple weeks ago you mentioned some big news on the Lens front in a couple week... Should we be expecting something soon?

+1

5k falling so close to traditional s35 is very welcome... Also looking forward to being able to create a custom size for s16 glass.

I think the widest ultra and mster primes will have difficulties... But basically you still have more resolution and DR with 5k dragon than the alexa so who cares...

Frankly I do not need any master primes with a dragon sized sensor. I wish it was even bigger than people would understand that S35 is not at all an optimal frame size. It's actually just the biggest possible frame you can create having the film roll vertically trough your camera. 65mm and even Vista vision is far more appealing to most people in comparison. And as the dragon has 2000iso you can close down the lens and get the even more dof than on a MX at the same light.

So basically I would say bigger and more resolution = better when it comes to sensor.

It's also more forgiving for the lens so I bet my canon FD L lenses on a dragon will outperform, in sharpness, the masterpirmes on a MX just because the sensor is bigger. That is with a price ratio of about 1:100...
