Hello,

I've been working since the beginning doing proxies and throwing them in a proxy folder as they usually relink to the R3D without hassle as they have all unique file names.

Now I'm trying to figure out the Proxy handling in Resolve with the original media workflow and proxiew toggle, to be able to jump from one to the other in an instant.

I find solutions that create a Proxy folder in the location where the R3D file is but it's not a solution for my needs as I'll have 100TB of footage and would like to give only a lighter drive to the editor containing the proxies prores LT and beeing able to take the project on another machine wich has the camera originals for special purposes (VFX, color...)

Is it possible to have proxies in another location than in the original media folder and keeping the ability to jump from proxies to camera original?
By showing him where the proxies folder is? (Project settings/working folders/proxy generation location) (Preference/media storage/Proxy generation location/use project settings) But I doesn't seem to work for me...

Is it any help if I use "preserve source directory level" until the first folder on the disk (4 levels) (mine called "Rushes_image") from the original when I do the proxies?

Any help/advise would be welcome.

Thanks
Patrick

Patrick,

I think you can in resolve if you Let Resolve know where your Proxy files Working Folder is.

I personally prefer using "BLACKMAGIC PROXY GENERATOR" instead because it uses very small proxies that as long as you put them in the same folder as your original files, will allow you to switch between the proxies and the original files in the resolve timeline effortlessly.

Hello Rand,
Thanks for your answer. I understand that but in my case the editor won’t be able to have the 100Tb original files and won’t use it. Just if we have to reach to the originals I would love to be able to share the project with the editor and flawlessly relink to the originals.

Patrick,

This is what I just tried, I don't know if it will work the same for you. I won't show all the steps due to time.

1) I used the "EXTRACT PROXIES"function in the Blackmagic Proxy Generator to remove all of the Proxies for the ARRI Alexa 35 ProRes 4444XQ files that I made.

2) I then placed them all on a separate Harddrive.

3) Next, I went to a few of the ALEXA 35 ProRes 4444XQ original files and I "Right Clicked" and chose " "RELINK PROXY MEDIA" to the Proxy files on another harddrive. I was then able to go back and forth between "PREFER CAMERA ORIGINALS" and "PREFER PROXIES" with no problem. I don't know if this will work the same for the "Generate Proxies" or "Generate Optimized Media" function inside of Resolve or not.
