  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO MINI - WHO WANTS IT - VOTE HERE !

Yes i agree all the pro I/O modules & batt modules make the thing into a" stretch" EPIC.....there too big and they are totally getting away from the whole point of EPIC's design
But i have truly found my ideal solution for all the work i do, be it promo's/titles/doco/drama etc.......
Ive posted about it in other threads, but with HDMI & HDSDI both working in the new beta firmware, The Innocinema setup gives me all the outputs i need......1 x BNC HDSDI, 1 HDMI (EPIC body), 2x AUDIO XLR inputs, BNC TC in, 12v outputs all over the place, 24V outputs, 5V outputs, 4 PIN 12V XLR output/input.......its just a plethora of inputs & outputs......!
There is also a 15mm LW front that attaches to there bottom audio plate
I have a 5V 2 pin fischer to mini USB to charge the REDMOTE, and im now working on a cable for the good old Aaton handle to trigger start/stop.
i dont work for these guys i just think this is the smartest & best engineered 3rd party gear i've seen.....
im stoked...!
cheers

It's missing what alot of us really need, a dedicated separate SDI and an EVF Lemo. Nothing bites more than having to switch you lemo from EVF to LCD and back again.

+1 on just another 2 audio inputs and lcd touch output/input. would be even greater if you could stack 2 of them, giving you 6 audio channels.
camera hardware must be powerfull enough I guess to record 6channels like I requested long time ago. Can see plenty off applications where this would make sense.

Yes, Yes and Yes!

I especially like the "no-adapter" box option!

Ned,
I dont like the RED LCD, so i only use the EVF.
To control camera i only use REDMOTE.
So with my setup i have EVF in Lemo, on board SMALL LCD HMDI & i have the HDSI BNC output for video village.......all sorted.......and two Audio XLR's.......
cheers
paul

Still the same, I using the Epic for commercial shoot here in Guangzhou Studio, Please ADD 5 for me too... Mark I am with you! So, Red Team is the time to make one for your die hard fans.... Please...

A 4K Prores module... That would immediately finish the Alexa debate. I'm exporting 4K Prores files right now from redcine X and it works incredibly well in FCPX, which I don't use much. If Adobe is listening they are sure to provide native support for Prores 4K and at the same time optimize Premiere for the Retina display... When this happens I will be in Heaven!!

Please make one SOON :))) I need additional LCD/EVF input SOON:))

You know, the more I think about the Pro I/O Mini as being a smart module adapter, the more it makes total sense. Especially if the two XLR inputs are connected to audio 1 & 2 to give you pro XLR inputs for those 2 channels. It would complete the camera for when you need XLR inputs without adding much bulk or weight, yet still give you the option to lose it when you want to go totally lightweight, highlighting the brilliance of Red's design philosophy. I think most people would leave such an adapter on all the time so the quick release modules can be added immediately. Then, adding the full sized Pro I/O module to cover the other functions and audio 3 & 4 for a more complete system when you need it also makes sense. After all, to add the current module, you have to add an adapter first. Ok, the Mini would be a little bit thicker than the current "dumb" adapter to get full sized XLRs in there, but not by much. And you'd end up with 4 full sized XLRs when required.

In fact it makes so much sense, I wonder if Red's silence in this thread indicates they are ahead of us...

OOoooooo.... I want the adaptor-less mini IO module in a bad way.
Not adaptor-less. The idea is that the Pro I/O Mini would BE the adaptor. Thus rather than being a featureless mechanical converter that has to be screwed to the back of the camera before you can add modules, it would complete the camera with XLRs and a much needed second EVF/LCD connector, and have the quick release connector ready for any module on the back. Thus for most configurations except super light ones, you'd leave it screwed on most of the time ready to immediately accept modules.
