  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO MINI - WHO WANTS IT - VOTE HERE !

I want this so bad that my heart fluttered a bit when I saw this thread (but then hurt a bit when I realized it wasn't official.) I mean, I really want full-sized XLRs, but don't necessarily need the extra stuff of the Pro I/O... Plus with this module it keeps the size in check (I mean, ProI/O + Quad Module is kind of massive.)

If I could get one of these (presumably less expensive than the regular Pro I/O), I'd probably order a Dual REDvolt module as well... So tiny with XLRs and hot swappable batteries that last ~1.5 (with SideHandle)... It'd be ideal for 95% of my shoots and no bigger than a "prosumer" camcorder.

I would love to have one of these. Even better if you could stack 2 of them together :cheers2:.

Being able to mount this thing without the module adapter would be great, but would probably prevent any of the other modules being put on behind it. That adapter is there for a reason. Strength.

But, alas, I don't see red offering something like this. And, if they do it won't be for a while. How far behind are they on all the other stuff that they've let slip are in the works and not out yet? It can't be easy to engineer something like this from scratch.

Also, I recall jarred's now famous line "give em a mountain of gold and they will bitch about having to climb it" or something to that effect. I totally see they usefulness of a mini IO like this, but the PRO IO just got released, and now we are crabbing about wanting more!

Nonetheless, I want one. And great mockup, Mark.

Matt, I think the idea is that the mini-I/O would BE an adapter, not a module itself. Therefore it would be screwed onto the camera like the "dumb" adapter and could take additional quick-release modules.

Mark, I love this idea. I got my Scarlet in March and per-ordered a pro I/O at NAB. When I first got the Scarlet, I thought I wouldn't care how big it was. I thought all I would be shooting on it was movies, either short or feature. I assumed I would be locked down on some type of rig 90% of the time...this is not the case. For the past few months, I have been carrying around my Red like its my 7D or hvx. I have really gotten use to it being as small and compact as possible, and cancelled my order for the pro i/o. Now, I cant imagine shooting the way I do with an extra 4-5 inches on the back, even with the luxury of extra monitor and audio in/out. That being said, I still very much want my XLR inputs..... and a smaller module that could accomplish this would be smooth like a "smoovie"!!!!

We got our pro I/O today... Love it. The thing is, the times when you need both touch screen and a EVF and extra ports... usually if you think of it, those times are the times when small or big size does not matter. When putting the pro I/O on and a fat lens and matte box and the quad battpack and other stuff you allready gone way passed the small handheld setup. Fur sure then the camera will not be something you have hanging around you neck on your sunday stroll in the same way as your canon 550D... So having it small (brain side handle) for handheld, steady cam, and camera rig work and then putting on all the needed modules on when shooting from dolly or tripod is not a bad way to go.

We have to consider, Not to far ago we where actually shooting with 2 wiper cams. Those cameras demanded one D6 woodoo tape deck each on set... The tape decks where about one cubic meter each and weighted about 80 kg... (giving us HD uncompressed 8 bit 25p on tape for as little as 1500USD per 60 minute tape ).... then that was the future for sure :)

Bjorn.....Part of me is jealous of your setup, and the other part of me is scared as hell of your camera. hahaha, congrats....she looks great!
