Is there a quicker way to create presets for the Epic? It seems to take me forever to get my presets setup. For instance, setting up a preset for 5k 23.98 180 degree shutter, 4k 120fps 180 degree shutter and 2k 240fps 180 degree shutter with TC/audio settings duplicated for each one. Right now the only way I seem to be able to do it is to set the camera in each desired setting, create a preset based on the current setting and save it. then I have to switch to the next desired setting and create a preset for that. Where this gets REALLY old is when I am trying to map these presets to my side handle in each of the 5k, 4k and 2k presets I have set. every time I switch to the new setting i have to dig through all the menus and map the keys out again. usually leading me to mess something up and have to start from scratch.

is there a way to create these on the computer somehow first and upload them to the camera?

Presets are a serialized sqllite database. I assume you could script creating new presets on a computer and then copy them onto your camera media. There are also GUI tools for manipulating sqllite databases.

If you want to create new presets that are similar to existing ones you have, I would duplicate the .preset file, and then open it with a sqllite GUI tool and make the modifications.

I haven't done this, but it's hard to imagine that it would make your camera explode.

This would be fairly trivial to create an online GUI to assign key presets actually, although certainly a bit of coding and design.

I'm thinking a web based app where you could download and save to your computer perhaps. Pull down menus and all that. Might be able to be something to link to your Red account and save your settings.

How many .preset manipulators use ios and macs? Might be handy to have an ios app that allows you to create a new preset, then have it Just Exist on your mac via iCloud the next time you plug in your media, and then you can just copy it over onto your media and you could use it on your next shot.

This would be very nice, and I definitely see a good use for it. :-)

I was thinking browser based so operating system doesn't really come into play. But you would need an internet connection in this case. Both could exist I guess.

thats what I envisioned. some way to just quickly create a preset and export it to the card and then import that to your camera would be awesome.

If somebody wants to work on this with me, I could write the code, pull down menus, browser based, and do all that portion, but would need someone to study the menus so that we make this ultimately useful

Brilliant idea! I would pay $$$ for this!

Somebody make this happen! I don't have the proper skill set personally, but I would pay for an app like this (really like the idea of an iOS based app!).

We're developing a new product which could interface with something like this quite well. If somebody wants to discuss this with me to see it through to completion, please contact me at jason@CinemaOxide.com

The cool way would be a web app with a good 3D visualization so you can click and asign the buttons of the camera on a 3D representation of the camera, that also shows the changes on the touch, SDI out etc. Some kind of "dry lab" for handeling the camera. That would also work well as a manual or for people that do not use the camera to often then they can run trough the menus before an important shoot and such.

But then again I kind of think... why not set the presets on the actual camera? Seams easier for most occasions. :)
