one for the top handle ext
Top handle ext. mounts to a top mount. Both very close physically, but slight differences.

I'm in the process of updating the FAQ with production-era images and descriptions... it'll be up to date by the end of the week, so it may not be a bad place to look over in the mean time before RED updates their site with product descriptions. I've posted about 1/3 of the accessories so far.

Thanks Brook, I forgot about it, most of the question I asked were already answered in your FAQ...

Hey Brook better yet, do you have time to shoot and edit 3 or 4 short quicktimes showing various configs, what pieces are used and explanations as to why...? I know you may be slammed and what I asked is out of the question... We are all well aware the RED Team is slammed... I do not live on the west coast or I would offer... We are visusal people and this is new too many. Something like this would go along way to quell the questions and inspire purchases.

Anyone else dig this idea? Then can I get a witness! ( sorry... there is an old time tent revival every thursday two blocks over and it is surreal... I need my RED.)

The Premium Package is gone. And that is a good thing.

1. The parts have changed for the better.
2. You are not stuck with every piece in the Premium Package (why anyone would want 4 side rails is beside me).
3. Duplicating the package costs only a few dollars more ($75 I think). But now you can get exactly what you want.
4. The Base Package has not changed in price and is the foundation to build the system you really want.

Any questions?

Jim

I have an Arri 15mm x 100mm matte box (about 120mm from rail center to lens center) and a Chrosziel 15mm x 60mm matte box (about 90mm from rail center to lens center). Which one will most easily be adapted to the bottom rail system?

Jim, I'm sure you had a good reason to cancel the Premium Prod Pkg, but please don't say the same package would cost the same today. I tried putting one together, I'm missing at least one rod and probably another thing or two and I'm at $3'740

The impression I have is that the Premium prod pkg was underpriced, that may not be the reason, but it's certainly a lot more expensive now. No hard feelings, I'm under the impression your pricing is fair (I know we're getting an amazing tool at a very low price). So if indeed it turns out it cost more than was estimated, then it's normal you readjust the pricing, (pricing subject to change at any time is something all companies write on their price lists).

Cheers,
Damien

I haven't quite figured out if you can mount the ARRI 15MM BASE to a Red One and have 19mm rods below to attach the drive and battery to the back of the camera. That is what you would need to mount the Arri mattebox, it costs $600.

To mount your Chrosziel mount box you need the 15MM ADAPTOR and the UNIVERSAL MOUNT ($95 + $100) which mount very easily above the standard Red 19mm rods.

Cheers,
Damien

This same pieces from another vendor like Arri would cost at least $5000...I wouldnt complain, the prices are very modest...honestly they are a bargain!

Movin' and Groovin'

Movin' and Groovin'

Quick notes from a fast moving EFP gig. The universal mounts are valuable. The steel rods are heavy. Putting the battery mount on the top rails rather than the bottom ones helped portability and balance. Looking forward to the battery mount sans drive cage. I am a long time Anton-Bauer guy and the V-mount is much looser than the 3-pin AB snap-lock.

I concur with the RedTeam that waiting until delivery to select accessories is wise. I also think a well labeled diagram of all the parts is a must. Even on Red Day when we had all the parts on hand there was still some confusion on which handle was which on the list, even on the part of RED staffers.

If we can all just accept that parts will come and go, or change, then maybe they would be willing to post specifics without concern that someone will complain about the changes. Jim has always reminded us that things will change, let's embrace that.

Perhaps someone could help answer these questions:

1. I have an Arri MB-18 and FF-2. Both are 15mm. Do I or would I need to use RED's Arri 15mm base plate to mount these items. Or would I need to get the 15mm adaptor (2?) to mount theses items or a combo?

2. In what ever configuration gets me to the 15mm rod set up...what about step down rings for the RED handles that are set up for 19mm? Does RED have such a thing or do I need to get them from a FIZ or Preston set up. (I'm sure this would cost a fortune.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

You can either buy the RED-Arri 15mm offset plate and your whole system will fit, or you can buy the RED 19mm standard set and add the 15mm conversion plate. Either way will work. If I were you, I'd pick door #1.

Thanks for the info. I've already ordered the Arri base plate just to cover my butt.

However...with the Arri base plate will that effect the ability for the battery and drive mount for the rear? Do I use both the RED base plate in combo with the Arri?

Thanks.

Jim,

That would be usefull to have a sticky about those accessories/compatibility topics.

thanks

No kidding. From the look of things, it seems like you have to get a body cap as a separate piece.

I am also wondering if the battery plate comes with the quickplate or if you need to get a quickplate and a battery plate to make that work.

Hi,

The accessories are really impressive, very surprised there was not more comments from IBC.

Stephen

Yes they are. The bits and pieces look very nice. RED has invested in a LOT of tooling costs to bring one quality acessories.

There is no penalty for waiting until the last minute before you receive your camera to order the accessories. In fact, it is probably better that way. You'll have a chance to see many of the possibilities in action and you can change your mind along the way (just like we do)... :-)

Jim

Thanks! I definitely need a chance to see and hear how people are using the different bits and parts of the package. That's going to be very helpful.
