  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pre-production EPIC-Ms...

Sony, Canon and the other guys have to be laughing their asses off over this one... maybe we should take a vote to see how we handle this?

We'll go by history... numbers of delivered cameras and I'll probably make some exceptions. And I probably won't ask permission.

We have been open about what we are doing and most are giving good suggestions and feedback. But a few are pushing this too far.

We are going to run our business now. If we do a good job, we'll have customers. If we don't we'll lose them. That's how it works.

Jim

Is someone having a fun holiday? :-)

I think this year is going to be the biggest year yet for Red and all of us who are on this ride with you.

I agree with you Shawn...this coming year is going to be so huge for RED.
So based on what you know so far are you in?!
Things are subject to change, but my gut tells me they have everything sorted out (bugs squashed etc) so a Feb release is likely.

on an Epic-M side note.. I really dig the colored screws on the prototypes so it would be cool if the Epic-M's could get their own custom screw color and custom name engraving option.

As much as I'd love to have a hand-built Epic-M (and I'm enough of a camera collector that it is a huge temptation) there are people whose businesses will get a significant boost from this camera. I'm not one of them. These cameras really ought to go to those people, and I expect Jim has a pretty good idea who they are.

Good points made here Jim..

@ the end we trust and most importantly respect your decisions for your business, and towards the offerings to us.
This was an already amazing news, and opportunity and for this I signed up for it,
once all the final details are out, if I qualify and see that it is still worth doing for
both piratical and financial reasons, I'll do it no hesitation!!

...I know you want in Ketch..

Hey Tonaci,

sent the email out as son as I got the info form Jim's post... actually I sent it two times as the
first I sent it to both Brent and Kelly and then read Brent's post saying to send only to Kelly,
and added few inquiries such a Canon Mount ;)

As far as the RED Colored Screws, that was a YES, as Jarred told me that we can special order those screws at an additional Cost ;)

Dammit!!! I take my first holiday in God-Knows-how-long and I miss the drop on this?!?
Email sent - fingers crossed.
Does this program sound a bit like Tattoo to anyone else??

I think we both geographically challenged down here in little old Australia, irrespective of the amount of work we do with our cameras and how many people we have converted to RED.
Jimbo has many big league friends in the US film industry and dare I say it, but we are just specs in the grand scheme of things.

Back in line with me mate, I'm hoping the Epic X isn't to far away.

No performance difference and yes to being used together in a 3D rig.

Jim

Great to hear, I emailed Kelly yesterday about getting on the list for 2 for a 3D project!

:D :D

You just beat me to it Elsie.

Just kidding Michael.......glad to see that some good came out of your posts and that you and Jim are friends again. If I owned a RED One I'd be in line too, will just have to wait for Epic's general release.

:-)

Outstanding Leadership.

We are going to machine and hand build a limited number of pre-production EPIC-M packages. They will include:

1- Machined and hand assembled EPIC-M Brain with titanium PL mount
1- Bomb EVF
1- 5" Touchscreen LCD (machined)
1- Side Handle (machined)
1- Side SSD Module (machined)
1- REDmote (machined)
1- 4- 128GB SSD cards
1- 4- batteries and charger

Total price is $58,000.

There will be an extra charge for a Canon mount.

If you are a RED ONE owner and are interested in this program, please contact Kelly at kelly@red.com

There will be a limited number of these cameras available at a cost of $58,000 per package. There is no guarantee that you will receive this package due to the limited number produced. Purchase of the camera package will not affect any other program (Stage) you have signed up for. 95% of features will be enabled... enough to shoot a feature movie. Firmware upgrades are to be expected.

Jim

Still way less than a feature film ready Alexa... and superior specs and hand built no less. WOW

George, thanks for posting. It caused me to notice that I didn't put an emoticon at the end. Added a big smiley because your post is right on target. Michael did us all a great favor by extracting all the information we now have. It has made a big difference in my mood.

two?!!! That is unfair!... unfair!!!!

Big grin from here too. This is all pretty sudden - have to finalize a couple things next week and get some feedback from RED on the details and whether they will even get to me. Either way it's great to know it really is coming soon.

I can't speak for Jeff..but I think he is also on the same page with customer # + variables. I don't think Jeff ever meant customer # was not part of the equation.

You're right on that. :)

Customer number should always be part of the equation. Those who bought in early were a huge part of what made the RED One successful. But I think other factors should be considered as well. Number of cameras delivered is a good one. So is who has done what for the RED program and the RED community.

In the end, I would hope the M cameras will go to people who will put them to good use and appreciate them for what they are. I would rather they not go to someone who will simply re-sell or auction it off to make a fast buck. If I that were my intention, I'd have desperately requested 5 or more of them already.

Being the first kid on the block to have the new camera is a big deal and can be a huge advantage in some markets.

I'll take extra syrup with my waffle.

Thought about it more.... Sent my email to Kelly. I know I would kick myself forever if I did not at least explore this option fully and attempt to get one. Kinda like how I could have been one of the first reservations for the R1 back at NAB '06... I hesitated and have hated that decision ever since.

ha, me too. I was waiting behind somebody to give my CC info to TED (probably would have been in the first 5-10 to sign up at NAB.) Then he said he had to go do one of his hourly spiels. I'd already heard it so I went over to the Panasonic booth to talk to them about the Firestore for the HVX for one of my underwater housing customers. (BTW met Jarred there - he was helping in the Panny booth). Didn't make it back until the next day so ended up number 206 - still have my titanium R (how high did they go on those?)
