  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Powering Red Raven with DJI Ronin D-TAP

So it just occurred to me that I could power the Epic Dragon with the DJI battery without the Ronin.... It works...
Is that the "old" 3400 mah ronin battery?
Cause i've tried to power my scarlet W through the dtap 12v port on the baseplate of the ronin, it powers up the camera, but then it suddenly turn off.
Do i have to buy and use the power distributor instead of using the dtap port on the ronin?

That can damage the camera or gimbal. Don't do that. You have to use the power distributor which is fairly cheap.

On DJI's Ronin MX video from NAB, they mention it can also power camera. Is that incorrect, or have they updated the new MX to handle and will it handle powering a Red camera (as they have on display at NAB)

The MX is a different beast. It has a dedicated battery to power your camera ( they sell a ptap to red cable)

the he older ronins ( ronin, ronin m) the PTap connection is low power

Does anyone in LA have the DJI battery power distributor and cable? Does anyone sell these? I need one for tomorrow.

Hey about tomorrow or so i will get DJI Ronin MX, i bought second battery, cable but ni distributor cable (i will buy in future)
But still i don't have my Raven, so if anybody want to test or something we can try some shoots. I am from Barcelona, Spain.

Is it possible to use this smaller battery for powering a RED via the DJI battery power distributor and cable?

DJI Intelligent Battery for Ronin-M (1580mAh)

I want to stay as light as possible and would rather have more of the small ones for use on the M600. thanks, Adam

Yeah I don't see why not, but it will only last 20-30 mins max. So you'll need a whole bunch of them. The 3400mah ones are also light and last an hour. The reason why I didn't use the 1580ma battery is cause it needs a new charger, so didn't want two chargers - just more mess to deal with on set lol

I just tried using my power distbrutor and cable with my Scarlet-W with Base I/O Expander and it won't power up my red for some reason. Im pluggin the P-tap into the distributor and the lemo into the DC IN on the base expander.

Am I missing something?

Did you turn the little switch on top of the I/O expander module? It's a little star - that powers the red ON when DC power is plugged in.

It's strange that the MX does not come with the battery plate or the rear battery when that seems to be the whole point of the MX. We can't fly ours with the Red until we get that. Does anyone know if the DJI dtap to Red power cable is approved by Red, or will it void your warranty?

MX comes with 2 batteries to power the gimbal ( smaller ronin m style)

If you are hoping to power the red via ronin batteries you will need additional power cable / battery distributor / full size ronin batteries & charger / extension kit links:

MX comes with two batteries no?

The small batteries that come with the MX will power on the Raven just fine but it blows through the battery in about 10 minutes. Haven't tried the bigger ones. I used a D-tap found on Amazon.

DJI Red Power Cable not plugging into Jetpack

DJI Red Power Cable not plugging into Jetpack

Is anyone having issues connecting the DJI Power Cable to their Jetpack... the L-Shape makes it impossible to connect

are you able to turn the DC-IN on the jet pack?

Just got my Ronin MX and all the parts, but the Red power cable from DJI hits my frame because it sticks out with the Base Expander on. I'd hate to have to get a jetpack just for this, especially, if that also doesn't work, according to the post above. Anyone got an alternative power cable? Something also, super flexible. The DJI one is super stiff.

The DJI cable is too stiff and pure waste of money. Try this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V6NOY02/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, though I will advise you get a spare, it seems not to last past 6 months of usage, gone through 3 units now, and the last one I bought was DOA but the seller sent out a replacement asap. If you do end up get 2 units, make sure you test them out before keeping one as backup.
