  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Powering Red Raven with DJI Ronin D-TAP

I've got it set up with both my Epic Dragon and Epic W. Epic Dragon took more to get set up, and I still want to get the weight set to make balancing easier. But I had it running for a couple hours of testing and it works. The Epic-W is way easier to balance and use, being a pound lighter. however, I'm still annoyed with the power situation. I got the DJI cable bent and balanced and working, however, without the weight set, the right angle connector hits the side of the the ronin MX. Is there a power cable that point DOWN rather than out to the Right?

I'm sure, with the weight set, I can move the camera over to the left, to make room, but I would love it if someone made a power cable that actually worked without hitting the side. I'm considering cutting the plastic, re positioning some of the cable and re-shrink wrapping it.

Could you post some pics of the problem man? My Scarlet-W is on its way and I own a Ronin (1st model) and i've been thinking about ordering the power dist and cable and I'd like to see what options I can get

It's a small photo, but you can see how the cable is looped around and outside the MX side arms. Coming out of the Base Expander, the cable touches the side arm when I title down. it works as long as I don't tilt down.

Gotcha. That does suck! Do you know if there are other better cables out there that work with it?

I don't. That's why I can here. I did notice the power port on the XL battery adapter, would angle out the bottom, so that might be an option. But that's an option that adds a whole pound to the rig. Wooden Camera makes a straight cable that when used with the Jetpack would work. But that's also half a pound and $1000.

I guess to do it right, I should look at the jetpack.

FWIW, I'm using the Wooden Camera right angle cable with a full size Ronin and I do not have the cable contact problem.

Yep. It's a problem with the Ronin MX. It's a lot more compact. Is anyone actually using a ronin MX and how do you power the camera?

I have mounted my epic-w to my ronin-m a lot and i just cut back the sleeve a bit and throw an elastic on it to get clearance as seen in this video

I ordered the Jet Pack Package that is what I was planning on doing is mount the DSMC Battery BELT CLIP

Hello Luis,

That's exactly my setup with Ronin MX, Jetpack and V-mount belt clip, and it works pretty well. Just be careful with slack-wire when you're walking/running, and taking into account the wire weight when balancing the Ronin.

Has anyone encountered this issue with their Ronin? (Pan wobble - look closely at the edges)

This is my setup

Majority of footage in the above video is with the RED / Samyang, not with the Cookes.

The unit itself is perfectly balanced, so can't seem to suss out why. I know there isn't a definitive answer because it depends on your setup, what do most people set their stiffness settings at?
