  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Powering Red Raven with DJI Ronin D-TAP

So it just occurred to me that I could power the Epic Dragon with the DJI battery without the Ronin.... It works...

Yes, I ordered the adaptor as well... then realized that I can power some of my LED lights with the right adaptor. I got over an hour of run time on a Westcott Flex 10"x10" at full bright.

I'd rather have a few extra Ronin batteries lying around than another whole style for things like that. It's a win/win - great for a consolidated travel kit.

So I just received the 4350 mAh batteries and charger. Did a very simple test with my Ronin rigged with a Scarlet Dragon, 5 inch touchscreen, Nyrius HDMI wireless, Hotlink, and Lenzhound Thumbwheel Follow focus. Runtime until the 10% battery alarm went off was just over 1 hour. The rig was sitting on the set up stand, so a real world shooting situation would probably be more like 45 min of runtime. Still it is a great new option for the Ronin. I was using V-mounts on the top bar so on-board power drops weight and clutter. The charging time on the Batts from 10% is about 1 1/2 hours so probably need 3 batts minimum. 4 batts and two chargers even better.

Thanks for that test... do the 4350 mAh batteries need their own specific charger, or can they use the same charger as the lower-capacity batteries? I see they have a specific charger available, but it wasn't clear whether this was because you HAD to, or just a faster charge for convenience if desired.

From the DJI website

"If you have the old battery and also purchase the new one, please note that the old charger can only charge the new battery up to 90% and the new charger cannot charge the old battery."

Thanks, Troy... that's a bit whacky... I'll probably just offload the old batteries to avoid having to maintain two different charging setups.

Does anyone have a link handy for the "new" charger... I'm confused...

The charger that came with my Ronin-M is 16.8v at 3.3A

The replacement sold online here is 16.8v 1.5A.

The 4350 mAh battery documentation states that the charging voltage is 17.4v, but I can't find that in the store.

Working with a Vmount battery on your belt will likely cause all sorts of balance issues with the gimbal. The slight pull and change of height and distance in the cable is enough to mess with the Ronin sensors and induce "shake". Not recommended unless really in a pinch.

Super pumped on the new Ronin/Ronin-M power distributor. That simplifies things so much! Appreciate the shares and tests guys.

Can someone confirm if the *new* battery charger can charge both the new Ronin-M 1580 and Ronin-Regular 4350 batteries? (or is there only one *new* charger; not a ronin-m charger and a ronin-regular charger?)
