  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Powering Red Raven with DJI Ronin D-TAP

i understand that however what I'm asking is what option do I have with the base I/O to run a cable to mount the brick on the handle bars for instance? The brick battery on the back of the camera won't clear the back support arms of the ronin.

Are you working with a Ronin with extension arms installed? Seems like the battery would clear with those in place. If you want to keep the battery married with the camera, that would be the way to go. One option (of a few): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1123230-REG/cinemilled_cm_300_arm_extensions_for_dji.html

So I got the adapter plate and D-Tap to RED cable. After stripping down my Dragon, mounted her up, auto tuned and I was off to the races! Recorded some footage and it looks great! Amazing that $248 is small parts open up a whole new world of flying my RED.

Pictures to follow!

Excelents news thank you for trying it out and giving feedback.

Can you also tell us how long does the battery last using it with the Ronin and RED tether together.

Here are a few pics to show how they fit on the Ronin-M. The "Power Distributor" gets installed in place of the battery, and then the battery piggy backs on the distro. All said, this adds almost an inch between the battery and Ronin to make room for P-Taps.

Power on the Ronin, power on the RED, autotune and you're set. I am running a thin HDMI up to an Atoms Shogun mounted on the top bar. Making any adjustments to exposure via REDMote.

One other thing to note- I am running extensions on the Tilt bar (purchased for $19 from DJI) in order to balance the center of gravity on the Dragon with Canon 16-35mm lens.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for this photos. I will order this distributor also.
I'm curious how long this can work with one battery since Red is a hungry beast. I know that Ronin M can work almost full day with one battery but powering Red from same battery will probably shorten this time much.
Could you please make some test?

This is so cool. I can't believe I missed this one going public.

I got it a few days ago, but havent had chance to try it out…
distro box and new batteries.

i am interested how long it will power ronin and dragon all together.

i just might try it tonight :)

For Ronin M, I think the battery is a little less than 5,000 MAH... Just the Ronin M, I get 5 hours. No idea with camera drain, but I think its going to be closer to 1 hour MAX.

even at 1hr that will be insane. I was barely getting 15min on Redvolts with my Scarlet-X. This will be such a blessing if this truly works as intended.

If someone can verify battery times with camera drain that would be greaaatttt!

I wouldn't bet on this. I use Lipo batteries to power Red (Scarlet or Dragon) and big gimbal for aerials and with 4s 5800mAh it last max 30min.

So this weekend I chased my dogs around the yard with my Epic Dragon... I recorded for 20 minutes and still had over half a battery left (the third of 4 lights was still blinking.) The Epic was charging a REDMote and I rand HDMI out to an Atoms Shogun on the crossbar. The Atoms was powered by its own battery, so the only thing the Ronin battery was being used for the was the camera, REDMote and Gimbal. Not a precise test, but I had to run out the door and thats all I had time to do...
