  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Powering RAVEN

wow, those have an interesting mini charger…i think...

I bought into the Pag system at IBC. The small charger is great- you can stack Pags on it and sleep through the night. Also that new small form factor battery is really nice. They don't know yet if they are going to incorporate their piggyback system or not. I hope they do, it is what makes the system really unique and would go great with Raven. It is a perfect way to hot swap without a side handle. I wish that Pag would incorporate at least one d-tap into their batteries. The do have a light add on that gives you multiple taps that is real nice, but an added cost and size, but it also lets you have multiple batteries for longer times and more umph.

yeah, that is great! and a nice price, if it works with the new slim batteries mentioned above that could be the deal. well, they havent mentioned a price yet, but the charger is cheap!

PAG L90 Slim looks great for gimbal, anyone know where to buy in the US? Guess I should have finished reading...from PAG site...The PAG L90 Slim Battery will ship in the last quarter of 2015. so should be available soon.

Im new to the red world, and I'm looking for a low cost battery to start me out with raven, I want to be able to travel with it as well is the switronix XP-l90s my best bet? or do you guys recommend something else around that price?

Go PAG. Great small charger. Charges multiple batteries.

i know they have a new slim coming out next year too, but they dont mention linking charge in the description.
seems like there is new tech that makes batteries a hell of a lot slimmer!

dunno about pag. but there are alllll sorts of battery guys, and i got my easy rig last year there for a great discount, was a super happy guy. not only that i was able to make connections with companies that became much more friendly once they knew i had made the trek to visit their booth in Vegas From Buffalo. Great networking event, and a great chance to get discounts on gear. most companies dont want to pay to ship their products back, so buying off the floor can be a great thing! =) oh yah and my wife had a nice time too!

Does anyone prefer going with an adapter for a gold mount (assuming one is made 3rd party)? I've not had to work with external batteries with the gh4, but now that I'm jumping to a raven, an epic owner friend of mine who uses v-mount wishes he would have gone gold. Any input on this from the board? I have time, but I'm curious. Thanks!

I'd like to expand on this. In the past all my work has been on systems with proprietary batteries (everything from SLR to FS7). This will be my first venture into a system such as a v-mount. I've looked into the IDX and Pag batteries, and they seem to start at around $300, and go upwards for $800 per battery. There seem to be some cheaper alternatives, but I'd rather not skimp.

That being said, what are some recommendations that you guys can give? Do I need digital readouts on the actual battery, or will the Raven power meter be sufficient? What about d-tap and such, given that the I/O expander has existing aux power connectors (d-tap and usb). I'd assume these features raise the price of the batteries, and am curious if the bells and whistles are really necessary.

Thanks!

Huge thanks for this link. I read the entire thread, and it seems those v-mounts are a bargain.

EDIT. In regards to these new "slim" battery tech that's coming out this year (Pag L90, IDX Enduro Slim, etc), I realize they're 40% smaller while maintaining the full capacity, but are they also 40% lighter?

look lighter to me

Have we got a definitive answer yet about the size of V-mount batts the Base i/o v-mount will support? I have a sizeable collection of Global Media Pro batts and not keen to change up.
