If anyone here that gets there Scarlet X soon can give the redvolts a true field test on the Scarlet X not the Epic and see how much longer they last on the Scarlet vs the Epic it would be very helpful for us in deciding how many redvolts to buy..... also on another note, What cables/components Etc.. would you need to use the red bricks on Scarlet X? not sure how to mount this bad boy or what exactly is needed to connect it to the cam, and is it possible to use more than one brick at one time or one redvolt and brick at the same time? sorry for our ignorance but we want to make sure of everything to spend our money the right way and properly add the components, thanks to all in advance =):cheers2:

I'll be getting 4 Rv's, I planned on 6-8, but found a better power source option. Instead of spending 2 grand on a backpack and quickplate, then more on power I can add this sucker http://www.viewfactor.net/index.php/products/epic-acc/fmj-top-x-1.html

And power for about the same price as a backpack and quickplate w/o power.

Thought I'd share with you guys as something to consider. I'll let you know what kind of run times I get off both but I don't think this is an option you can pass up if you want to run Bricks. It was a no brainer to me. I shoot outside in the cold and while RV's are nice, I like the idea of this set up even more. The pictures show the simplicity of how easy it is to connect. Before when I was considering Bricks I was looking at a belt clip (heavy and awkward for shooting in some instances) and the additional cable you had to buy for $190. And attaching it to the camera seemed like a better fit for my work.

LOOKS LIKE THE WAY TO GO THANKS JEFFERY!!

Edit: Forgot to thank Zac C for mentioning them.

That's exactly what I've been looking for - thanks for passing it along.

I'm curious to know exactly which V-mounts you're thinking of going with - and what sort of runtimes you think you can expect vs redvolts?
(obviously bricks will run longer... I'm just not sure how much longer)

Sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat, trying to find the most budget friendly usable kit to get us started.

Cheers Jeffrey (and Zac) Much appreciated.
I have three RED volts coming - and was thinking on perhaps an additional 6 RV's plus a quad charger.
But this looks like the way to go to me too. What batteries do you plan to use with this plate of you don't mind me asking?

Best
Lliam

Same boat indeed! You even beat me to the same question! lol

Red Armor only applies if you use 100% Red batteries and accessories. All of these cost cutting measures (if you want Red Armor) are invalid.

And if you don't spend the $2850 extra on Red Armor for Epic-X ($1500 for Scarlet), you're stuck with only a one year warranty on a $28K ($10K) camera. :(

It's a pretty tough call what to do.

I believe Red Armor on Scarlet is $1500.
Epic's Armor cost is $2850

Could some one suggest options for V-mount batteries. I'm not familiar with them but I am very keen on this system too...thanks

Thanks, I updated my original post with the Scarlet pricing.

The original point still stands: Red Armor stipulates 100% Red batteries, accessories, and cables, so the cost-cutting measures in this thread don't apply if you want to get it.

That's the dilemma. :(

Glad i could help, even through jeffrey. Te viewfactor looks sick, and ill probably switch to it after a few jobs

I just read the terms and conditions for RED Armor and I don't see that language anywhere.
What I read was that RED Armor will NOT cover damage caused by third party components, but it does not say that using third party components will negate your warranty.
So - if you use a third party battery plate and your brain stops working for some other unrelated reason, it would still be covered.
But if you use a third party battery plate and it fries your brain due to a manufacturer defect in the plate...well then, yeah, you won't be covered.

That's how I read it anyhow - but would be nice to get clarification from a RED Team member.

About the Viewfactor plate, what happens if you ever add on a module to Epic/Scarlet? Will the last module have the same attachment plate to go with the Viewfactor? Just curious

From the viewfactor site (emphasis added):
The plate also uses an upgradeable cable assembly that can be changed out to a longer version in the future for even more mounting options. Since the same hole pattern on the rear of the Epic cameras are on the back of the Red expansion modules, one needs only to place the screws at the end of the module then upgrade to a longer cable option (available soon) to provide future proof power options for your Epic.
