  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Possible Redvolt field battery tests on Scarlet X? And RED brick questions

Hey Jeffrey, do you know for a fact that the battery plate you mentioned works with regular red bricks? (http://www.viewfactor.net/index.php/...j-top-x-1.html) I emailed those guys a few days ago and still no response -- or a phone number. Also wanted they to state in their email response that it would fit the same way on the Scarlet as it would on the Epic.

Yeah, they work with all vmount batteries. Red bricks, switronix, global media pro.

What's the limit of what you can take as "carry on" for a flight? I never put any camera gear below. Can Red Bricks and Global Media pro's go on board?

Below 100wh i think its unlimited. Above 100wh then its 2 batteries on carryom, with a 3rd attched to camera, which i believe having it on the battery plate counts.

Sweet! Thanks Zac.

I ordered 2 Bricks and just ordered my Viewfactor plate. Funny thing is they'll probably be here before my scarlet just like all the rest of my lenses, SSD's and Red Station :(

It will. It saves you about $1200 bucks too. If you go the RED route you have to buy the DSMC backpack $1200, and Backpack Quickplate which is nearly $700. I'm sure there are benefits to the RED route. But I need more power and couldn't fork $1700 when something for $700 does the same thing and already has great reviews.

But I wanted to support RED so I still went with there power over getting them from AB or GMP.

Zac/Jeffrey, thanks guys.

I have no intention in purchasing DSMC backpack/quickplate options. Besides the VF plate, I have my eye on the Element Technica plates to mount on my 15mm rods.

Since you said you've ordered the VF plate already, perhaps I'll just wait a bit and see how satisfied you are with yours soon.

No worries. There is a full thread on here with people that have purchased them for there epic's already. So far the reviews have been good and plentiful.

found this as a possible solution to convert to AB mount, looks like it will serve for this purpose. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/459110-REG/Marshall_V_ABA_01_VABA01_VMount_to_AB.html

Hi Brad,
That plate is our QR-A200 and will convert the V Mount to Anton/Bauer Gold Mount. We also have our QRC-EPIC plate which is compatible with both the EPIC and Scarlet cameras. Based on information in other threads I believe Brook and Viewfactor are releasing an Anton/Bauer version of their plate.

Best,
Kyle Dann

I'll be getting 4 Rv's, I planned on 6-8, but found a better power source option. Instead of spending 2 grand on a backpack and quickplate, then more on power I can add this sucker http://www.viewfactor.net/index.php/products/epic-acc/fmj-top-x-1.html

And power for about the same price as a backpack and quickplate w/o power.

Thought I'd share with you guys as something to consider. I'll let you know what kind of run times I get off both but I don't think this is an option you can pass up if you want to run Bricks. It was a no brainer to me. I shoot outside in the cold and while RV's are nice, I like the idea of this set up even more. The pictures show the simplicity of how easy it is to connect. Before when I was considering Bricks I was looking at a belt clip (heavy and awkward for shooting in some instances) and the additional cable you had to buy for $190. And attaching it to the camera seemed like a better fit for my work.

Jeffrey, thanks for the link. I ordered the scarlet x AL package. If i'm understanding this correct and i can do this of course, then i really wouldn't need the 2xRedvolts ($195) and the charger ($125) that come with the package, i can get this mount and couple of band bro batteries?

Okay.. so if I got the Globalmediapro Li160S-R Lithium ion Battery 160WH for Red Camera and Globalmediapro SCA2S 2-channel Charger/ AC Adaptor, do I actually need the plate? Can't I just mount the battery somewhere off-camera (to reduce weight of the camera) and cable it to the Scarlet-X?

and so God sent the answer in the form of a question, thanks kamal

Roshdi,

As long as they're a V-mount battery they will work on the plate.

Sure you could but doesn't that make it a lot more work if say you are switching from a handheld set up to tripod or viceaversa? This solution still keeps the unit super portable in my opinion even if it gains a few pounds the weight isn't offset strangely.
