Please release upgrade list for Dragon

I hear you, Meryem. Trust me, although his voice is not on the boards, it is loud and clear within RED's walls so that loyalty is still there, and always going to be there. I know I, personally, would not be at RED without it.

Something to consider for those currently in the queue, is the new OLPF that's on it's way.

I was able to watch Dragons fly out in a good number during the holiday season and they are certainly visible out here, but I would stress for those wishing to receive anything in the next few weeks let Red get that new OLPF in there and tune the camera to it. You're going to want it and it will be worth wait to get that dropped in rather than sending a camera back immediately after receiving it.

Dragon fills in a good deal of the boxes that working professionals are looking for in terms of pure image quality. The new OLPF fills yet another box that would otherwise be looked at very harshly. It's commendable actually that Red is getting this done so damn fast actually.

I have a feeling once the new OLPF is buttoned up that Dragons will be flying out in big numbers over the next few months.

Second, there is a reason that 99.9% of companies in the world don't do upgrades, and make you just buy a whole new product with each new advancement - because it is a logistical b*tch. And Bob touched on a lot of the reasons. And like the situation where we got feedback on the OLPF, and we are turning around a new OLPF based on that feedback. That running change takes time and resources.

But no matter how hard it is on RED (and wears on the patience of our customers at times), RED feels the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

So why don't we publish a lot of timelines on REDuser? We learned our lesson : ) When we used to give regular updates on timing, when we missed them (for whatever reason), we got blasted. With cutting edge technology, you are going to get shifts and delays.

Lastly, if we said you were person number 200 in queue and the next poster is 400, does that give you any better indication of when you will get your notice? No, it is all relative.

End of the day, we are going as quickly as we can. It is in RED's best interests to get it done as quickly as we can. When you are frustrated, we are frustrated, maybe even more.

what exactly is the method used to determine where in line different cameras are in terms of the upgrade. Without pointing fingers, I have heard of cameras that have "skipped in line." As I cannot believe this is the case (and put a bit of my own rep on the line by saying so) can you absolutely confirm that this does not happen.

carbon dragons skip the line I believe, and that is the only way to do so as of now. instead of worrying about upgrading X's or M's (which is a logistical nightmare for Red, and surely will take some time and considering my Scarlet to Epic transition was in Sept, I am damn near last on the update list lol) I'd suggest people buy a carbon fiber brain if they really need a Dragon in hand as soon as possible. I for one would of already bought one if I had coin at this moment, and its a great way to get it in hand sooner. i mean hell i could even sell my epic brain to help offset some of the costs, but i'm not in the position to do this at this time. at this point i figure i dont care how long it takes them to get to me in line, its just giving me options to spring for something else in the mean time, no big deal... theres plenty of ways to add value to our current packages and services without dragon, lets be honest guys

You are probably right. But as the list is the only reference any user has, it has some value. Looking at it today, it would seem that Red is about half way through the first day of the early adopters/M window in a little over a month of full-on production. So for anyone outside of that window, it would seem likely that it's going to be a long wait. My guess is that early adopters have cameras by NAB, others after that. I hope I'm wrong, and that it's going to go faster than that, but in the absence of any word from Red, this sort of conjecture is the only way to do any planning.

My first camera was already at the upgrade facility when I learned of the new OLPF in the pipeline. I requested my camera be held at RED's update facility until the new OLPF can be installed and tuned. Received confirmation from Stacey Jewell that they would indeed act upon my request. I know my situation is different from most, but I'm willing to wait for the "best camera possible" after my update.

This leads me to think of RED as being in the Cloud. That is, Red Cloud identifies a weakness and moves to fix it immediately. Loving the RED CLOUD!

Completely understand that it is a logistal bitch, and that things are always changing and new issues arise, but the order at which we were placed in for the Dragon upgrade is something that is not changing, and will not change. And we know the order may not tell us exactly how soon we will be up for the upgrade, but it's at least nice to see how many are in front of us.
