  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yeah it'd be great to get some R3D clips from the Weapon to see improvements announced.

The CMOS smear issue that's reportedly "fixed" on this camera over the Dragon is something I really want to see.

Proof of everything is in a R3D shot, so hopefully we'll start getting some of those to check out.

Is the Weapon applying ADD + NR on the ProRes file as it's downsampled to UHD?

I'm fairly confident the ProRes is a separate stream not based on the REDCODE image that's either being recorded in tandem or when rolling ProRes on it's own.

Which means ADD isn't really "a thing".

Also, thus far RED has never implemented any on board noise reduction in any camera. Don't think there's anything new there with Weapon.
 
5000 same as 1250? I haven't looked at the r3d's yet but how can this be true if red stated only a 1/2 stop difference in sensitivity, are they being conservative?

Patrick, the A003_C016_0729BG.RDC folder on DropBox is empty.

Which camera was A003_C016_0729BG.796.0000796F.tif? Have not looked close enough yet. It has the ugly blue clipping around the lights.

Update: The metadata says EPIC-X and the artifact does go away with DragonColor. Curious of the Weapon has the same issuse with DC2.

Hmm weird I'll have to take a look at it in a bit. The A003 file is from the Dragon. And A001 is from the Weapon. The Chromatic Abberation is caused by the lens I think, we didn't have enough time to really finesse it. We did the whole thing in about 10 minutes.

No we processed both images exactly the same. I'm not trying to fake it. There would be no point in that considering you guys are all about to get your hands on these cameras in the coming weeks.

That is not chromatic aberration, it is a DC2 artifact. :) It goes away with DC1. I have pointed Graeme to the thread to look at the clip. If both A001 and A003 were done the with the exact same settings, then that is great that the artifact is not present with Weapon and DC2.

BTW Patrick, thank you for taking the time to share this with us! Much appreciated! Can't wait until the A001 R3D is available to download. Both of the folders on DropBox were A003, guess you need to put the A001 clip up. :)

I messed up the upload, those are the same dragon clip. I need to upload the weapon clip once I get it off my friend's hard drive. There's a huge difference.

Baaah sorry guys I had to go out of town. Since I never had the hard drive with the files I've been trying to make an upload happen from the road. So so so sorry to keep you all waiting! I'm doing everything I can!
