  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PLAYBACK

First thing I'll do when we get ours is to update our Epic, thank you very much Jim Jannard and the Red Team!

So I'm sitting in a hotel room, doing final preparations for a shoot the next day. As always, I do a constant refresh of reduser, and then, there it is - playback! WTF! FTW!

Install the new build for a production starting in a few hours or play it safe? Do I trust RED enough to go for it? I'm only hesitant for like 10 seconds, then I grab an SSD, do the upgrade. Quick test - it works. Me and my team cheer, other crew members around us look at us like we're crazy. We do some more testing, it's getting late, but we can't break the build.

5 hours later. 20 crew, 10 actors, 40 extras are on set. We power up our EPIC, start shooting, instantly forgetting we're on an alpha build. It's just rock solid. Trust RED? Hell yeah! :)

Thanks guys, great job!

You, my friend, are a nutcase.:scared:

Tested firmware 2 for some days.
ALL ok thanks RED ;)
playback is fantastic.

AWESOME!!!!!!

Did the same on a shot last monday...!
Everything worked perfectly... Just few bugs, need to re-boot...
I had just some troubles on 3k files at 150 f/s...

Hey Michael i test tomorrow 3k slow, what is your problem?

A vertical line on the arm...
But it seems that the lines in 3k are an RCX issue, rather than the camera. RCX needs some changes to support the 3k from 2.02.

Is there anybody out there on whose Epic this firmware didn't work? It feels like if I'm the first beyond all this cheering.
During installation all went fine. I started up- and UI looks really better now- recorded and switched to Playback mode. Only the last frame that was taken in the recording status is shown as freeze. On the screen as well as on HD-SDI out.
The playback buttons on the menu's bottom are dark-grey and if I hit play only the "1x" or "1"- I don't remember exactly- on the left lights up.
Under "Media" the clips are shown but the system doesn't play them back.
Is this mode somehow restricted to a certain frame rate or format or something else I haven't considered?

Installed Epic_Build_2_v2.0.2

Man! I love This EPIC CAMERA!!!! Playback is smooth, everything is running great . HDMI out works fantastic! Shot a clip a few weeks ago @ 2k 300FPS, wonderful to watch it playback!!!

THANKS RED TEAM!!

P.S. Made this little video after Thanksgiving Dinner today, hope you all enjoy!

hi, ... Can i upgrade from 1.6.42 to 1.7.10 or 2.02 without remote (i don't receive yet) and only on redbrick (full charge) NO DC (i only have 2B to 1B cable, work well). ? With NO RISK ?

THANKS

I had this too, also at 3k - and it went away after the first black shading after upgrading. So I'm not sure it's a RCX issue.
Picture quality improved DRASTICALLY at high compression rates with the black shading also. (!)

Just wanted to say thanks to the Red Team for an amazing playback implementation straight out of the gate!

Had a shoot on Friday where they wanted to shoot very high speed and play back.... in reverse!

They had been all prepared with external recorders etc, when I informed them that yes, Epic could now play back 300fps for them on camera, and yes, in reverse too (including trimming to save time, and looping). The camera team were VERY pleased with the simplicity of the UI and the ability to quickly select any clip desired.

I also noticed that unlike Red One, the Epic can record multiple time bases to a single SSD, another feature that proved helpful as we tested the differences with shooting 23.98 and 29.97fps for different multiples of high speed.

Kick ass!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul :)
