  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Playback for EPIC...

No Seriously :)))))))) hahahahhaa... I'd be asleep if I was any more chilled out.
I'm sitting on my boat of an Island in the northern reaches of Australia, watching the sun go down, eating a freshly caught lobster and knocking down a beer.

I'm chilled. :)

This forum is so much fun :) I love you all.

Awesome Mark
Love you too ; )
Thanks for keeping Reduser real
But like Michael-Kromschroeder said
What's with not sharing the lobster ??

I can see it now.

Toia, his boat, Sunset, a lobster and five minutes with an Epic. Quick grade in RCX pro and straight to vimeo.

Hahhahahaha. :)

Hey, I'd love to see it ... First one was great :).

There's a little bit of green stuff when you pop the heads off, but they taste to good to be Martian.
I think Ridley Scott thinks the same as you though.

Cheers..

OMG! I hate you! In the most loving way of course.

So for all you guys that don't want or don't think the EPIC needs Playback... Then don't use it. I however will in fact embrace it with open arms and probably shoot another 25% more per day, due to not having to race back to video village to make a decisions.

This is one of those scenarios we shot in New Zealand at 14,000feet hand held. I played back in camera 2 seconds later (@120fps) and said Thats a wrap. Lets go home.

Out of curiosity Mark, what would you have done if it wasn't a wrap? Did you have a clone in the chopper for a second take? ;)

Actually I'm pretty sure by reversing the data flow you would create a 4K photon reversal that would turn your Epic into a laser canon.

No, this is how they created the new projector: by accident.

I am going to respectfully disagree with my friend Pawel. After 6 months of shooting on the Epic, I can assure you that Playback is a "must have" feature.

Agree with you Tom. And Marc, I'm sure you have high budgets, because your work is great, but if you try to make me believe that a major ad campaign does not require frequent playback for clients then you live on another planet from me. It's not about "sucking dick", it's about genuine cooperation between the art director, the marketing director and so on. Even a high end music video means a competent label (yes, those do exist) with specific ideas about their artists image.

I don't suck anyone's dick, but I do genuinely respect the people I work for (or else I would not work for them) and welcome their often surprisingly useful contributions to the creative process. No playback makes that more time consuming or more difficult or both.

It's one thing to be a one man band (I direct/DP with my wife who is also a Steadicam op, but we both do both jobs), it's another to imagine yourself your own client. Even the talent (not always, but sometimes) benefits from seeing a take if they are having an unsure moment.

Why not offer a wireless module for streaming that can be recorded on an iPad or something like that. Playback independent of the physical camera. The client and the director can be watching 100 feet away while you have the camera hanging on a jib or underwater. It would be even possible to playback while recording a new take on background.

Besides, you could have multiple iPads recording and/or playing at the same time. All encrypted and password protected of course. You could even set a time limit for the daily, so it would be auto-deleted by the end of the day or locked, so you wouldn't loose control of how many copies of dailies you have generated.

I would happily buy a module like that. Of course after I buy my Epic-X in a few months :)

teradek cube for now ;)
