  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PL Mount 11-16mm f2.8 Prototype, Manual Iris

Matthew, this lens is a beauty, I love it already. I'm so excited to get it on the camera tomorrow. Thanks to you and Michelle for all of your hard work, and for staying on top of this.

Matt and Michelle,

Thanks so much for a wonderful piece of equipment. Your attention to detail is astounding. Lens was used on a shoot and performed superbly. The build is great, the mechanics smooth. Again, thank you. If I can get them to release some footage, I'll post!

Cheers,
-Marc

My congrats and thanks as well.

I have been carrying mine around like a new born baby!! and when
I tell people how absolutely friggin cool this lens is they dont believe me till I pop it on and BOOM!! instant fans.

You have all been amazingly patient while we worked out all the kinks in this project, and you deserve the best!

i think that the footage that matt already posted represents the lens very well...

too busy testing my new RED ROCKET and ROCKET CINE X, although I did run around with this lens on yesterday, and you will all be thrilled...it's sharp, nice mechanics, aperture ring is a little bit close to the PL mount - it will take me awhile to realize, without thinking about it, that the zoom ring is not the aperture

...but this is an observation, not a criticism, and clearly just a function of rehousing -- I will be shooting with this lens a lot next week, and I can't wait, I can tell you right now that sky timelapses have never been this good.

i'm using this on a fulldome project, and it will be killer for that application

so many good things happening at once...

I'm not sure if this was shown here on REDuser already.
This is a video from Matt Uhry, shot with the prototype model.

I'm really liking my new Tokina, haven't had much time to play with it just yet. I agree with Meryem that the aperture ring is a bit close to the mount, but what do we do, it's just the way it is.

I do have one question for those of you with the lens. The zoom ring on mine is a bit gritty in operation. It seems to function properly, it's just "gritty" and does not have uniform resistance across the zoom range. Even makes a slightly audible abrasive noise on occasion. Is this to be expected? Or is this something that needs to be looked at?

Jeff,

some of what you are feeling I just the internal zoom components from the original Tokina lens. If it is a concern for you, we would be more than happy to adjust it to the best of our ability.
The same goes to all who purchased our lens. If there are any problems or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know. We stand behind our products firmly.
