  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PL Mount 11-16mm f2.8 Prototype, Manual Iris

Difficult to say for sure about the vignetting. This lens nearly covers FF35 at the longer end, so I think it will be good for the Mysterium-X 30x15 sensor as wide as 12~13mm, I'm not so sure it will do it full wide at 11mm, but it will be close. It seems to cover RED One 4.5K just fine. And M-X 5K is just 3.46mm wider.

Isn't Duclos the one doing the various measurements for different lenses? How come none for this lens?

It's been discussed before, but if Epic-X is less wide than full frame then you can use it not only starting at 15mm but a little wider still. How wide, we won't know exactly until we can give Duclos the exact sensor dimensions and he kindly checks for us, or someone gets a camera.

I am interested in knowing if it will cover the full range using 4.5k. Has anyone tried 4.5k yet?

Maybe......... :aureola:

Can somebody loan Matthew an 11-16?:aureola:

Just teasing you matt.:)

Any idea what you would charge to put a pl mount on my Contax/Yashica Zeiss 300mm F4? I have two of them if someone else is interested at the same time to keep cost down. They have buttery smooth long focus throw and the Zeiss T* coating. My understanding is that the long teles are much simpler to convert than the wides and zooms. Probably don't need fancy gears. Mostly for wildlife stuff (and maybe some girls on South Beach)

4.5K at 11mm

4.5K at 11mm

ok, so...i should have shot this at a faster shutter speed, but it does give you an idea...looks soft here, but in motion it looks great

this 11mm at 4.5K is sick...i am having so much fun with it...

yes, no vignetting, no problems with coverage at all. It is a fantastic little lens...

shooting in the direction of the sun for a sky/landscape did produce massive amounts of lens flare, though. so don't do that.:nono:

still learning some of its behaviors.

11-16 in Paris

11-16 in Paris

I used the 11-16 in Paris a few weeks ago on a music video. From the Director to the 1st A.C. it was a beloved little lens. It was especially useful in this checkerboard room where we wanted to capture the whole space, but didn't have a lot of room to get the camera back. Plus the effect created when the singer would come closer to the camera was dynamic, but didn't distort her face or body in an unpleasant way. And being able to zoom in a touch when needed was awesome. Viva le duclos/tokina 11-16!

Couldn't pick a more challenging test for a wide angle lens... and it looks fab!

I have the 11-16 as well and love it.

Matt Duclos and I will try to answer the "At what focal lengths will it cover Epic 5k" question by end of January. We predict it's going to do well, covering all the way or almost all the way to the ( 11mm ) wide end. We look forward to being able to give a definitive answer soon.

FKB Review

Finner Review the Duclos 11-16mm lens.

We are very impressed with this lens. I put the lens through it's paces with help from a friend at Panavision. The zoom tracks really well. It's sharp as a tack corner to corner. The projection has very little distortion for such a wide lens. We are happy with the build quality, look and feel of the rehouse as well. Matt, ya did good!

A verry positive and brief review.

Not that it matters but being that Matt & Co. decided to go with the Canon mount Tokinas there is no focus reversal necessary. Which made me wonder. Has the focus gear throw been expanded or dampened differently?

We like to keep the reviews brief... unlike some review people that go on and on and on.

I just talked to Matt Uhry and yes we did make a mistake. There are two versions of the lens. A canon and a nikon. Duclos didn't need to change the direction of the lens. I'll see if I can edit out the mistake and repost.

Regards,
Dan

Hmm...so am I right to say that the focus direction of the DL 11-16mm is just like a cinema lens?
